Hair, Nails
& Make-up The hair, makeup and nails are just as important to consider for your big day as the dress or venue. There are a lot of things to consider when thinking about these aspects of your overall look.
• Book your stylist and makeup artist four to six months before the wedding. Your trial run should be a couple weeks before the ceremony. When you go for your trial bring along any accessories, head pieces, jewellery or general bling you want to use in your look.
• Consider your actual wedding day and where the big event is happening when thinking about what style you want. If you're going to a humid, tropical area certain hairstyles might not stand up as well. Are you going to want to wear a heavy headpiece or an accessory that digs into your scalp all day? Is the discomfort worth that much attention on such a special day? You'll be most beautiful by being yourself so keep that in mind!
• Ask questions of your stylist and don't be afraid to tell anyone on your beauty team if something doesn't look or feel right to you! This is your day and you're paying for the service; make sure you're getting something you feel is worth your money and praise. The stylist won't feel good about their work if they get the feeling you're dissatisfied with it either!
• Allocate enough time! A trial run is a great way to gauge this and help you figure out how long it will take for everything to get
done. Don't rush this part; hair and makeup go a long way to help you feel as special as you want to be on your wedding day.
• Pay attention to your hair and makeup post- trial. Does your style hold up? Do your curls droop and disappear? Does the makeup fade? Get gloppy and feel gross? By taking note of how your look fares your stylist and makeup artist can make appropriate alterations and fixes to get it right on your wedding day.
• Your makeup needs to stand the test of time. After the walk down the aisle there are photographs galore! Consider engagement photos as a test for your makeup.
• Don't forget about your nails! Pictures of the ring on your finger and holding hands with your spouse-to-be are practically mandatory by now but beyond that you'll be shaking a lot of hands at your wedding. Take a fabric swatch or another representation of one of your wedding colours to the nail salon, if you want to match, or choose a natural shade to give your hands a polished look. Don't forget the pedicure if you're wearing open-toed shoes!
