diversity, people from all walks of life from residents, travelers, executives, the- ater caste, athletes, college students, all come into the studio and life is reduced to very simple human terms - we see the sigh, the laughter, the familiar face. For
I
an hour or perhaps 90 minutes, members have a mental and physical release that allows a recharge in a profound way. It can happen at 6 am, lunch time, evening after work, and weekends. In the hustle of a working city, this brings perspective to a central theme in holistic liv- ing that de-bunks the concept of work-life balance to just become life balance. Professionals in business are re-writing the outdated concept of compartmentalizing areas of one’s life to one that integrates essen- tials with fl exible boundaries: nutrition, exercise, self-care, relation- ships, and meaningful work that inspires you.
While the exercise connection is obvious, we also see this
changing concept at Hartford Sweat. Integrating these essentials into the studio means availability and creativity that has led to Yoga and Barre at local Hartford venues and area partners and a sampler-Sunday in the studio to showcase healthy foods right from downtown Hartford. Community classes, charity, corporate part- nerships, and more, are all built around community relationships. So, in an unexpected place at the heart of a busy city we fi nd a common truth that a balanced life will inspire your best work.
Rakyel and Tory Brogan own and operate Hartford Sweat at 777 Main in Downtown Hartford. You will fi nd Rakyel in the studio teaching Hott Xpress and Bikram classes throughout the week as she brings the same transformational experience to others that she found years ago. Visit us on-line at

Healthy Destinations: Hartford & West Hartford Is Health Coaching Right for You?
n the lower level of a Hartford landmark skyscraper, we are right in the center of life, literally. With urban
confl icting health information in books and online? Do you know what to do but keep falling off track? Do you feel ready to do the work to achieve your health goals but desire personalized support?
A If you answered yes to any of these questions then a
health coach is “just what the doctor ordered.” The fi eld of health coaching is rapidly growing yet most still don’t under- stand what we do and how we can help. Health coaches partner with clients seeking to make sustainable changes to enhance their overall health and well-being. Just like a sports coach can help you perfect your tennis swing or your 3-point jump shot, health coaches provide insight, inspiration, education, support and accountability throughout the coaching process.
Health promoting lifestyle changes that we address include:
improving diet, managing stress, maximizing sleep, increasing movement and removing toxins. Health coaching can be espe- cially valuable for cancer patients and survivors before, during and after treatment.
Rates of chronic illness continue to grow despite medical
advances. In fact, one in two Americans has a chronic disease. According to current research the major risks result from envi- ronmental factors and poor lifestyle choices. These are known as epigenetic factors and have the power to change how genes are expressed. This is exciting and empowering news because it means that we have a tremendous amount of control over whether we become sick or attain optimal health. A well-trained health coach can partner with you to create an action plan that minimizes your risk of chronic disease.
