Halesworth & Southwold Community News March 2019 21 Halesworth and District U3A
HALESWORTH and District University of the Third Age (U3A). From Henry’s (half a dozen) Wives to Butterflies. Our February meeting at
the Cut saw Tony Diamond return to the lectern at short notice when our speaker Helen Frost who was due to speak about the WW1 Women’s Land Army was unable to join us due to illness. Helen will now join us all being well early next year to give her talk. Those both acquainted with Tony Diamond as a speaker along with those new to his talks were treated to his fast paced, well researched take on history with a mix of facts, context and some startling and humorous anecdotes
added
to this were some surprising twists to what we thought we knew and remembered about King Henry VIII and his six wives from our school days. On Tuesday 19th March, 2.30pm at The Cut there will
be an illustrated talk by Steve Aylward from
THE Fisher Theatre, Bungay, is once again opening it's doors for another really lovely Cinema+Create
session,
encouraging grown ups and children to work together on themed crafty projects. This month’s film and crafty theme is Julia Donaldson's brilliant 'Highway Rat'. Sponsored by the wonderful
East of
England Co-op and Bungay Town Council, who have also supported us to buy reusable equipment, to ensure less waste.

the Suffolk Wildlife Trust. His talk will
look at how
habitat management work is improving Suffolk Wildlife Trust reserves for butterflies and how the populations of some species have fared in recent years including some surprising new arrivals. The talk will include tips on how to photograph butterflies and attracting butterflies to your garden.’ Steve is well acquainted with many of the SWT reserves nearer to us and will be pleased to take any questions you may have about them.

This is the last Cinema+Create until after the summer holidays, but we look forward to three new films being announced soon. Cinema+Create presents:

HOLTON & BLYFORD VILLAGE – BURNS NIGHT SUPPER
FLUSHED with the success of our Gin Festival back in November, the Village Hall Committee
decided to put
on another ticketed event in January and we held a Burns’ Night supper. Eighty tickets were sold and we had a full house once more. The hall was decorated with tartan and fairy lights, and a portrait of Robbie Burns oversaw proceedings. The haggis was paraded around the hall and Mr Jim Fyfe performed the address with great aplomb, including a special vegetarian version he’d written himself! Three delicious

“Local Donations for Local Good Causes”
WHY was the WCGF formed? Every year charitable organisations apply to national funding streams such as, sport England, sport Suffolk, the national lottery, the health lottery, the local council and as statistics show only 1 out of 10 are successful in receiving funds, the other 9 must repeat the process and continue doing so but are not guaranteed success. Every £1 you donate, only
15p goes to these causes, the remaining 85p pays for corporate big bonuses, their investors, their work force, big offices, and let’s not forget all the gift aid they claim back, 25%, (25p in every pound) which is claimed every month, generating millions extra. Speaking to local charity
organisations and the people they serve throughout the 23 wards that make up Waveney county, we learned that every one of our local charities and good causes struggle to secure funding every month. With the ever-increasing running costs, charities are forced to either increase their fees, or reduce their work force, and in some cases cancel their services How is the WCGF different?
The Waveney Charities Giving Foundation is a charities platform set up to receive donations every month from residents and local businesses who believe in Local donations for Local good causes. The WCGF Platform has been designed so that your regular
donation (£4 a month) will reach charitable organisation ONLY within Waveney, we guarantee 100% of your donation reaches good causes throughout the 23 wards. Every month the WCGF
on receiving applications from organisations within the county, will be sourced and applied to their importance, how much funding they need, plus how much funding is available. Once a decision has been made, the WCGF Chief Operations Manager, will visit each applicant to determine the 2nd stage process. Who can join? Businesses
that are based in Waveney, whose employees are residents within Waveney are invited/ contacted and asked if they wish to donate and join the WCGF. Employees who are tax payers, and reside in the UK (Waveney), and donate regularly to registered charities can claim on their annual tax, thus reducing their annual tax bill.
Residents within Waveney (23 wards) are asked to
support/donate/join the WCGF, and regularly donate £4 a month, by doing so we can help them claim (if they are a UK tax payer) on their annual personal tax bill. Every person who registers with the WCGF, and donates £4 a month, we can give them the means to claim back or offset
their personal
tax. Each member must fill out and return a membership form, which is kept at the WCGF head office. This information is used to apply for Gift Aid, HMRC application, stipulates that records of donors must accompany Gift Aid applications (Names, Addresses) etc. All personal information will NOT be shared with other funders/ organisations, and we guarantee your personal information will be secured under the data protection act 2018. For more information, application process for joining, please visit our website at:
