TEST DRIVE THE
HALeSWORTH Volunteer Centre continues to go from strength to strength. We were able to provide volunteer drivers over the Christmas break - making sure that people got their shopping and made their medical appointments. One of our drivers nobly drove on New Year's eve and New Year's Day to get passengers to and from their hospital appointments. We continue to drive an average of 960 journeys every month - equating to an amazing 6800 miles every month. We also help people with their shopping, escorting them around the shops or even doing all the shopping for them. Our volunteers know how important it is that people who can no longer get out and about for themselves, have a friendly face to deliver their shopping to the door. Isolation Busters continues
to grow, and we had a flurry of new referrals right at the end of 2018. Luckily, we have some fantastic volunteers who are on hand to provide that reassuring visit, trip out or support to attend an activity or get to a coffee morning. We are always looking for
new volunteers. Volunteering for HVC is extremely rewarding, you get to meet the most amazing people and
drink a lot of tea. You also get the support of our great staff team. If you would like to know a bit more about what we do, pop in and see us and we can tell you all about the exciting things we do. You can also ring us on 01986 875600. Huge thanks to Spexhall and
Wissett WI. We were able to distribute beautifully wrapped Christmas gifts, donated by the lovely ladies, to many of our passengers and Isolation Buster users. We have had a number of calls thanking them for their generosity. A huge round of applause to the WI, they are fantastic. And while we are looking forward to an exciting 2019, we also said goodbye to Julie, our ebullient Administrator who is leaving us for pastures new. We wish her very well in her new endeavours. In December, we made the unusual step of closing the HVC office to attend the funeral of Doreen Shields. Doreen was simply lovely. Always smiling, never complaining, very generous and always doing her best. She was one of the rocks of the Halesworth Day Centre, prepping veg on a Monday morning and then beavering away at every lunch, keeping everyone smiling. We will not see her like again.

OUR December meeting saw us celebrate Christmas with drinks, nibbles and Secret Santa. We had also enjoyed a Christmas meal at the Wangford Plough in late November. We wish all our supporters a happy New Year and look
forward to another year of mutual support, friendship and welcoming anyone who is affected in any way by Parkinson’s disease. Our next meeting will be
held at the Garden Room, Patrick Stead hospital at 10am on Wednesday 9th January.

Bollywood comes to Wenhaston
PUT on by Wenhaston WI in aid of ACWW (Associated Country Women of the World).
Bollywood dancers, curry
and a movie in our Village Hall filled to capacity. The evening took off with
very lively, inspiring dancing by beautifully dressed women who do this as a form of exercise – what a way to keep fit!
Next came delicious
veggie and chicken curries accompanied by Bombay potatoes, dahl, naan bread, raita, poppadoms and chutney cooked by our members and even enough for seconds! Dessert came later during
our movie - mango kulfi (ice cream) donated by the owner of our local Indian restaurant.
THe result of the draw held on December 12th was as follows: 1st - No.65 - Joyce Rushbrook - £25, 2nd - No.148 - Mr & Mrs Watts - £10, 3rd - No.170 - Sue Brown - £5, 4th - No.185 - Arlette Smith - £5.
With full stomachs we
settled down to watch our movie 'Bride and Prejudice'. A Bollywood Jane Austen directed by Gurinder Chadha with its
disputes. It was full of fun and wonderfully colourful singing and dancing. With the sale of tickets, a
bar selling drinks including Cobra beer and a 50/50 raffle we raised the amazing amount of £1017 for ACWW. This was all made possible with help from so many people and all those who bought tickets to support the evening. It was a truly full-on, tasty,
lively, colourful and enjoyable evening.
