Bungay Camera Club

BUNGAY Camera Club held its “Annuals” event competition at Broome Village Hall on Saturday 24th November. The event was extremely well

supported with a large number of entries were on display. This is an annual event at which various prizes and awards are made as a finale to the club’s varied programme of activities throughout the year. The judge for the night was

Derek Leak, a well respected local photographic club circuit judge. Derek announced that this was the last time he would be judging as he was at long last retiring from the ever more onerous judging circuit. He commented that it was fitting that his judging career should end at Bungay Camera Club as it is fast becoming well known for its high standards of achievement throughout east Anglia. His first choice for the colour

print section portfolio of three mounted images was Josh Finch. Josh is the youngest member of the Bungay Camera Club. When Derek made his judgement he was unaware of Josh’s young age and so judged him against some very experienced older members of the club, several who hold the LRPS (Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society) qualification.

Derek particularly liked Josh’s photojournalistic

approach

which achieved a rather good narrative regarding telling a story about a farrier shoeing a horse within the context of just three separate prints. This win was achieved even allowing for the fact that all the images were not technically perfect but held the viewers attention span from the first to the last image. Well done Josh for seeing off all of the more experienced photographers. Another new name to the

winners list is Ray Mason who received a really glowing accolade from judge Derek Leak about his monochrome image, a pallbearers statue in Lindisfarne, Northumberland.

Derek

commented on how difficult it is to handle the dynamic range of an image that Ray had achieved in low level light conditions. 'An impressive image, well perceived and very well technically executed indeed', he remarked. Jane Murphy LRPS produced

an exceptional monochrome print portfolio of elephants in Botswana. Derek remarked on the balance of tonality and dynamic range of this set of three images which made them something quite special. Winner of the colour print of

the year was Sue Grief with her atmospheric image of textile

workers in Asia entitled “Where did he get all that work?’ Judge Derek Leak announced that this was his favourite image of the evening and would not be out of place gracing centre page spread position in 'National Geographic Magazine’. As a record image with a social documentary message it was superb. As a travel image it succeeds on all levels. Stunning.' Regular competitors such as

Holly Stranks LRPS, David Penrose LRPS Peter Nixon, Andy Wilson LRPS achieved high levels of success in winning various levels of the competitions which run throughout the year. The emergence of many new

faces achieving competition recognition, especially that of young Josh Finch, to challenge the old guard was especially pleasing and points the way to Bungay Camera Club having a very bright future indeed. To round the night off, a rather

good fish and chips supper was enjoyed by those members and their respective partners who had witnessed the cut and thrust of the competition plus a close view of all the superb images on display. Bungay Camera Club

a good number of cats and kittens throughout the year (in excess of 100 as we write) and have helped many more with neutering and health care. No doubt the coming year will be just as busy for our fosterers and fundraisers. Volunteers Wanted: Fundraising

event

Organiser: As we start the year we are planning our fundraising events and we are urgently looking for a Fundraising event Organiser to take the lead in our fundraising team. The role would include sourcing and booking events and ensuring we have volunteers available for each one. If you enjoy meeting people, have some imaginative fundraising ideas and are well organised, we would love to hear from you. Fundraising

helpers:

Attending the many shows around the county depends on having a substantial team of people to; transport goods, pack and unpack at the events, sell the goods and speak to people about what we do. These are enjoyable days and we need more people to join us so that we can attend more events. If you can spare a few hours throughout the summer, usually at weekends please consider helping us. If you would like to join

us as a volunteer and would like to know about what these enjoyable roles involve please contact Gillian on coordinator@framandsax.cats. org.uk or call us on our branch number below. Looking for a home: Poor

Sebastion has been with us for some time. He is thought to be about five and he had a tough time on the streets before coming into our care; he was found to be suffering from a serious infection. Now fully recovered, he is looking for a new home. He likes attention on his own terms and will soon let you know when he has had enough! If you are an experienced cat owner looking for a very special lad, Sebastion is the one for you. Call us soon to arrange to meet him. See our website: framandsax.
