Meditation, a good diet and plenty of chocolate
Victoria Jones, 38, runs a successful women’s fitness business in Headcorn and has a full but non-stop life. Here, she describes her recipe for dealing with stress and avoiding illness…
How are you? Really good thank you.
How is your health generally? Good. I feel I lead a balanced life and listen to my body which keeps me healthy.
Have you ever had any major illnesses? Tankfully, no. I suffered with regular bouts tonsillitis for a few years when I first set up my business but the more I learnt the beter I did. It took time but I made some lifestyle changes to look aſter myself beter and implemented strategies to manage my worries and stress so I now find myself to be in great health.
Do you take any medicines? No, I’m very much of the belief that prevention is beter than cure and whilst I have had courses of antibiotics and penicillin over those tonsillitis years for which I took antibiotics prescribed by the GP. I truly feel that the varied balanced diet I eat – which involves plenty of fruit, vegetables and cooking from scratch - and my mind-set support my immune system to stay healthy. It’s important that you take the best kind of exercise for you, be it running or high impact stuff.
Have you ever considered herbal remedies? No, though if I am ever feeling I could be starting to come down with something or get warning signs that I’m becoming run down I will add some extra veggies, sleep and goodness into my diet early on. Eating plenty of natural stuff is always going to be more healthy than processed junk food in any case.
It’s important that you take the best kind of exercise for you
Ever needed an osteopath or chiropractor? I have had a few osteopath appointments over the years but now tend to head to see my physio
if something feels out of sorts now. I’m fortunate to do yoga and Pilates as part of my weekly work routine, so again I feel I’m on that prevention path. I went to an osteopath originally for a knee problem which turned out to be a back injury. Tat stemmed from being a nursery nurse where I was carrying children
on my hip and it became unaligned and the symptoms emerged in the knee. It is not that uncommon for one injury to sort of manifest itself somewhere else. It was the physio who eventually sorted that one out. But I certainly wouldn’t discourage anyone from using an osteopath.
What, if any, exercise do you take? Along with the yoga and Pilates I do a lot of work with weights, not

body building or heavy liſting but I love strength training with a pair of dumbbells that give my muscles just a litle more weight than they think they can handle. It creates as much a mental workout as a physical one and the benefits are phenomenal.
What are your vices? Any type of chocolate but it depends what day it is. You name it, I’ll eat it. One day it could be white chocolate, another it could be a big bar of Dairy Milk. Of course I like chocolate – I’m female! But if push came to shove, I would choose Cadbury’s Caramel. I could eat that all day long.
Managing your stress and thoughts are the root of great health.
What is the best piece of health advice anyone has ever given you? Get the foundations right and the rest will follow. I absolutely believe that managing your stress and thoughts are the root of great health.
Would you like to live forever? No, not forever but I’d love to live a long and healthy life packed full of adventures.
