he start of any new year is a time for reflection on the 12 months that have just somehow got behind me. Tere were highs and lows, like any other year. Maybe it’s my age, but I ruminate less about the lows but remember the highs with a smile. My daughter’s impressive GSCE results


and a reunion with an old press photographer friend from my Belfast days are just a couple of the highlights which spring to mind. I won’t trouble you with the lowlights.


If anyone knows about highs and lows, then elite sportsmen do. In these parts, we’ve produced two top class gymnasts in James Hall


and Courtney Tulloch who have announced their presence as medallists on the world stage. Both are vying for a place on the British Olympic team next year. We


wish them all the rewards that hard work, sacrifice and dedication brings. Although their careers have generally been stratospheric, they know


about injuries and disappointments. But it was a pleasure to read their stories in this edition of Mid Kent Living magazine. What an inspiration they are. As ever, we have brought you an idea for a walk this winter at Knole


Park. It is not somewhere that I have been to but feel inspired to give it a go. Elsewhere, writer Dawn Kingsford has been finding out (the hard way) why a trampoline session is a great way to stay in shape.


And as we are now in the very depths of winter, there is nothing


quite like game meats to whet the appetite aſter a strenuous walk in the countryside. Most of our favourites, such as pheasant and rabbits, are not even indigenous to Britain. Very welcome to nation’s menu, nonetheless. As ever, there is a load more great reading in this issue. Have a great 2019. All the best,
