Winning ways for Sibford riders

Sibford’s equestrian teams have been enjoying a highly successful Autumn term. They got off to an impressive start in the first week of the school year when they competed in the NSEA and Unaffiliated ODE at Swalcliffe Park Equestrian. More than 400 riders competed in three categories …

dressage, show jumping (over 80cm, 90cm or 100cm jumps) and cross country ... at the event which was sponsored by Sibford School. Sibford’s 80cm team and the 90cm team both came first

overall in the team competitions. The school also achieved the top two places in the 80cm competition with Emma finishing first and Maizey taking second place. In October the teams won both the 80cm and 90cm classes in the Beachborough Eventers Challenge which means that they have qualified for the National Finals which take place at Hickstead in May 2019. And in November, Maizey, Emma, Hannah and Emily won the NSEA Show Jumping (90cm) at Addington which was a qualifier for the NSEA Royal Windsor Horse Show which also takes place in May.

The 80cm winning team at Swalcliffe Park National Kayaking Competition

On Sunday 18 November, Year 11 students Harry and Michael travelled to Wokingham for the National School’s Kayaking Championship. The day started with the 500m time trials. Harry and Michael successfully got through to the final coming home in 7th place. Next came the 200m knock-out rounds. Again both boys did

well, successfully getting through three rounds before being knocked out in the 4th finishing 6th overall out of 24 paddlers. The day

ended with the 20k marathon and again the boys did well coming 7th overall. PE teacher Richard Ferley said: “This

was a good improvement on last year. Harry and Michael were competing against some older boys and both should be very proud of their achievements.” Above: Harry pictured left in September competing for Banbury Canoe Club. Above: Michael and Harry pictured at Wokingham.
