A Happy New Year to you all. 2018 proved to be a very active one on the environment, with much talk about ‘single-use plastic’, fl y-tipping and the problems of poisoning the lands and seas of our small planet.
We can look on and wring our hands in despair or roll up our sleeves, put on our gloves and hi- vis jackets and do what we can locally. This can of course be local street efforts – which we know goes on, and for which we are very grateful, or the main community litter picks that Keep Upton Tidy organises.
As usual we will be having three litter picks in 2019, the fi rst being our Spring event on Sunday 24th March. If you are free that day and you have a couple of hours to spare in the morning, we would be delighted to see you with our regulars. The litter pick will be from 10am until 12 noon, meeting at the car park at the Surgery/Library
(Volunteers working in partnership with Dorset Wildlife Trust and Purbeck District Council)
Upton. Equipment will be provided.
The Keep Upton Tidy Group will be meeting again at Turbary Court in Douglas Close in the New Year and we would welcome new members or attendees to see what we do
or to bring issues to our attention. Contact one of the offi cers listed above if you need any more information on this.
Finally we would ask residents to be vigilant and advise (in the fi rst place) Dorset Waste Partnership (either online or on 01305 221040) of any litter, fl y-tipping, dog fouling or overgrown pathways (or bins that have not been emptied). If you still cannot resolve the problem, contact the Town Council (01202 632070) or one of the offi cers above.
