Beccles. Should you encounter someone out with their furry friend, it is simply a case of waiting for a moment – perhaps use the time to plan your next shot!
There are no bunkers or water hazards on the course but a combination of Gorse bushes and small, fast greens make this a course capable of challenging good golfers whilst allowing the more modest player to have a round secure in the knowledge they have a chance of getting round without losing too many balls! Course management and shot selection is tested; get it right and make your putts and you can shoot a low score. Beccles Golf Course is open
to the public, with green fees for adults just £5 for nine holes or £10 for 18 holes; juniors are half price. It is fair to say this is good value golfing fun. For the more serious golfer who is looking to play regularly then a year’s
membership is a good option. Again, the committee have kept annual subscriptions to a minimum. Under 14’s are free, 14-16years is £50, 17 – 21years is £100, 22 years £200 and over 22 years just £270, Ladies are £100. With these prices Beccles Golf Club is an affordable and accessible place to play golf all year round. The club is run exclusively
by volunteers with the exception of the greenkeeper. It has paid dividends to have a professional greenkeeper as the
quality of the course is superb and all players benefit from this investment. Perhaps one of the most notable things about the club is the gorgeous traditional wooden clubhouse complete with all the facilities you would expect, including a bar and function room. THE guest speaker at the October meeting was Tom McGarry from EDF Energy, who explained to members the reason for another power station at Sizewell C. It is required due to the necessity to increase the supply of electricity. It will take ten years to build, and once operational would give security of supply to 6 million homes. The development would include a campus for workers. Once construction is completed, the site would be returned to its original use as farmland. Final planning permission is being sought following consultation with all concerned. Three members were
