Mettingham Village Hall
TO all persons who use, have used, or have an interest in Mettingham Village Hall and the facilities it provides. Mettingham Village Hall - henceforth referred to as MVH. Over several years a small
committee of volunteers have managed the day to day running of MVH, have arranged lottery funding to update and improve the facilities meaning we all have access to a venue that is adaptable for all kind of events. “From Baby Showers to Wakes” and much more in-between. Sadly, father time has caught
up with many of the committee, and they feel it is time to stand down and hand over the reins to younger, more able-bodied people, but we don't have enough members left to make up a quorum. This letter is hoping to recruit
several persons to re-stock our committee, for without new recruits MVH will close. We would welcome anyone

with an interest in keeping the MVH going to inform us before December 10th and join us at our committee meeting on December 12th, when we will have to decide whether or not we have enough people to form a new committee, or whether we send notice of termination of hirings from February 2019 and disappoint a lot of people. MVH is used on a regular
basis by many groups and clubs, and it pays its way, although extra fundraising is done from time to time to help get people together and have a bit of fun; we all tend to lead such busy, segregated lives, a chance to mix with others is important. Perhaps each group or club that uses the hall could put forward a member or two for the MVH committee? New blood, new ideas, to keep the MVH going forward as a facility that is needed, loved and cherished into the future as it has been nurtured and loved in the past.
THE Harleston U3A Ukulele band recently had the privilege of participating in two of the town’s end of WW1 commemorations. The first concert, held on October 19th at the Leisure Centre, raised £110 towards the cost of refurbishing the war memorial area. The second (British Legion service), held at the Methodist/URC Church on October 27th, was an intensely moving experience involving prose, poetry, songs and instrumentals, remembering both the soldiers, sailors and airmen who fought and also the men and women back home who kept “the home fires burning.” We meet every Tuesday in the Methodist/URC Hall. Anyone who enjoys singing is welcome to join us since, with the ukulele,
The present MVH committee
would like to pass on the healthy state of the hall, complete with forward bookings, rather than having at a later date another committee form and them having to build up a clientele base from scratch. We meet on the second
Wednesday of each month, and our AGM is on Wednesday 13th February 2019. A decision will become FINAL then, because notices to quit will already have been sent. So, if you could offer some of
your precious time for meetings and/or more practical help please contact one of the committee, soon: Christine Sampson – 01986 893822; Sheila and Ray Hall - 01986 893623; Paul Willer - 01986 893092; Keith Penn – 07857 644392 Email: pippenn@btinternet. com; Audrey Rowles – 01502 712794; Vera Thirtle – 01502 712325 Email:

By effectively becoming their creative “assistant” I have found that the residents enjoy their classes without the pressure of feeling they have to create a masterpiece. I have gained valuable insights over time into the best methods in which to construct a class that can benefit all. Feel free to contact me anytime

OVER 70 people went along to Blyburgate Hall in Beccles earlier this month to take part in a celebration of cake organised by Beccles Twinning Association, sharing favourite bakes from both Beccles and her twin town of Petit-Couronne in Normandy, France. Sixteen people brought and
shared their cakes, and after a short presentation, some of the cakes were sampled by a panel of ‘experts’ from Beccles who ‘know a thing or two about cake’. The panel was made up of

MAKING a difference together to help homeless pets. Wangford Vets Santa Paws
Appeal is to raise funds for small local animal rescue centres who provide sanctuary for an endless cycle of animals in need of help. With each of the animals
already being cared for - receiving food, medication, socialisation and the emotional healing often required before re-homing, finances continually have to be stretched. The team at Wangford
Vets feel they have a shared responsibility to help the charities caring for abandoned, unwanted pets as well as sick and injured wildlife. We truly admire all the volunteers that so generously give their time to help unwanted pets back to
full health and fitness, and who spend hours and hours helping traumatised animals to learn to trust and play again after years of loneliness and isolation. Each year we set ourselves
a challenge to raise as much money as we can to help keep animals in care, warm and fed. The costs of caring for these pets tends to escalate over the winter months and with the rescue centres receiving no government funding, they are forced to be reliant on donations and public support to run their services. So in the approach to Christmas we are hoping that animal lovers will be full of festive cheer during the season of goodwill, and are asking animal lovers to buy an extra bag or tin of pet food when out shopping to help
Cookbook), and Barry Darch, avid consumer of cakes from the fundraising coffee mornings of the friends of St Michael’s. After some deliberation the title of ‘Star Baker' was awarded to David Cross, for his ‘Cape Verde’ cake, which was based on a 1960’s Madeira cake recipe by Mary Berry, with the addition of Creme du Chocolat which he bought on his recent visit to Petit- Couronne. This was David’s first ever bake, and decorated with a fresh lemon and sparklers. The panel were also impressed by the taste, which they said was different, moist and full of flavour. His prizes of a bottle of bubbly and the traditional blue apron, were presented by Town Mayor, Elfrede Brambley- Crawshaw, before everyone enjoyed tea or coffee and a slice or two of cake in the French style cafe. provide for those pets in care over the winter months. Although our appeal is about
the animals, we recognise that it would not be possible without the support of volunteers, the caring individuals who not only give up their Christmas, but also love and dedicate themselves to their welfare of homeless animals. Wangford Vets will themselves be donating a little something to thank the volunteers for all their hard work.
