Cheque and ‘Love Boxes’ presented to Barsham Church

FOR over 10 years the members of Barsham Church have been collecting shoe boxes and filling them with Christmas Gifts. They are known as ‘Love Boxes’ and they are sent to children in orphanages in Moldova providing them with their one and only Christmas present. Each Love Box is wrapped

with Christmas paper and is filled with individual items - either made or bought, by people who will almost certainly never know the children who receive them, but want to give a gift at Christmas that these disadvantaged children will

certainly

appreciate. The items range from knitted, brightly coloured hats, mittens, teddy bears, crocheted bags, to puppets and handy gifts such as combs. Each box is labelled for the age group of the presents inside and whether it’s for a boy or a girl. The whole operation is

organised by the Mustard Seed Relief Mission and each year they will arrange for over 30,000 Love Boxes to be sent to children’s orphanages all

over Europe. Beccles and District Lions

Club President Chris Lambert said: “When the Club found out about this amazing gesture that was being done locally, yet affecting the lives of children who are not as fortunate as others, in the spirit of the Lions movement the Club felt they wanted to help in whatever way they could. After contacting the Love Box Co-ordinator at Barsham Church - Margaret Harris, the Club decided to donate £200, which covers the cost of transporting the Love Boxes to their destination in Moldova. Some of the Lions have even made up their own Love Boxes and added to those already made up by the Church members and there will be a grand total of 96 Love Boxes this year, going to the children in the orphanages in Moldova.” Margaret Harris said “It

is a year-long operation, as we start collecting the empty shoe boxes in January. The Church members start to fill them with various items of their choice. In October we send them to Eastbourne to be sorted and shipped over to
