Crowd at the Opening Ceremony Wiltshire and Swindon Summer School Games 2018
On 4th July 1500 young athletes, 200 young volunteers, representing 113 schools competed in this year’s Wiltshire and Swindon School Games at Marlborough College. The Games comprised of 14 sports as part of a year-round School Sports Competition Programme supported by the National Lottery and Sport England.
Mara Yamauchi, the 2nd fastest British woman for the marathon behind Paula Radcliffe and winner of bronze medal at 10,000m at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, compered the Opening Ceremony and was on hand all day to inspire and encourage the athletes to achieve their personal best. Mara ran the ‘School Games Mile’ and gave the students a target time to aim for.
Dancers from St Laurence School and the Choir from Hilperton Primary Schools gave uplifting performances in front of the crowd.
