Pizza chain planning to move into former bank
AN INTERNATIONAL pizza takeaway and delivery chain has unveiled plans for a fast food out- let at Larkfield’s former Lloyds Bank. Papa John’s,which has 300 stores
in theUK,wants to add the branch in London Road to its portfolio. In proposals submitted to bor-
ough planners, agent Sarah Butter- field said the firm, founded in Indiana, USA in 1984, could create up to 20 jobs through themove and improve the “vitality and viability” of the area. If given the green light, builders
would overhaul the boarded-up frontage by removing theATMand installing a “full height” display window. A new door and shop- front panelling would be finished in the company’s trademark green. Inside, a customer reception area
and sales counter would be cre- ated, backed by a kitchen. On the subject of cooking smells,
Miss Butterfield said: “All products are oven-cooked. The baking rather
than frying limits the odours.” There would three deliveries a
week. She added: “Food deliveries would bemade on regular days to maintain stock levels. Delivery ve- hicles need only be present at the site for approximately 20minutes.” Borough planners were also as-
sured the outlet would have two bins at the back of the shop – one for general waste and the other for re- cycling. Bothwould be pest-proof. The prospect of a Papa John’s in
the parade which still houses two banks, an estate agent and an ac- countant’s has received mixed re-
actions. Workers at nearby busi- nesses told Downs Mail they were looking forward to the pizza shop opening. But one resident told the council he opposed the moves be- cause there were too many take- aways in the area. He cited potential rats, smell and late-night noise as further factors in his objec- tion. If given permission, Papa John’s intends to operate the Lon- don Road takeaway and delivery business between 10am and 11pm Sundays to Thursdays, and 10am and midnight on Fridays and Sat- urdays.
