Green light for dnata development 10
Aberdeen Standard Investment’s Airport Industrial Property Unit Trust (AIPUT) fund says it has secured planning permission for its 250,000sq ſt dnata City East development from Hounslow’s Planning Committee. Dnata UK chief executive Gary Morgan said: “dnata City East will help us to accommodate increased cargo handling demand from our
growing portfolio of clients at London Heathrow at the time when the airport is on the cusp of major expansion. Securing a state-of-the-art warehouse of this size in a prime location builds on our relationship and real estate work with AIPUT and puts us in a strong position to handle the airport’s cargo- handling requirements of the future.”
ABC deal propels Liege into the big time
Russia’s AirBridgeCargo Airlines
has signed a ten-
year lease agreement with Belgian hub Liege Airport, following the memorandum of understanding announced at the Farnborough International Airshow in July. Under the new deal, AirBridgeCargo will lease 25,000sq m of warehousing and is expected to make Liege one of the top five cargo airports in Europe by 2020. The project will be divided into
two phases, the first to be launched in June 2019 with a 12,500sq m warehouse. The second will follow in early 2020. At the same time,
the Walloon Airports Company is building four new aircraſt stands to accommodate the AirBridgeCargo fleet. Liege Airport chief executive
Luc Partoune said the agreement would take the airport into a new dimension: “We welcomed the first flights in October 2017 because AirBridgeCargo had to reduce its presence in Amsterdam. Then we responded to their call for tenders launched earlier this year for the creation of their European hub... Thanks to AirBridgeCargo, we plan to reach one million tonnes by 2020 and become one of the top five cargo airports in Europe.”
Shippers welcome Maritime Single Window plan
The European Shippers Council has welcomed the European Commission’s new proposal for a Maritime Single Window. It said it would provide faster clearance and release of goods and reduced administrative burdens. However, ESC added that it and other stakeholders would welcome more detail on how different systems will interact and how harmonisation will take place. The proposal aims to establish a pan-European electronic environment for administrative formalities in cross-border
operations, and is now being scrutinised by the European Parliament. It will be built on existing IT
systems and databases and will involve harmonised national and EU systems and data sets based on common formats. The proposal was issued as part of the Third Mobility package and is closely linked with another proposal for a regulation on electronic freight transport information. The new regulation will
replace the existing Directive 2010/65.
