OFFSIDE OFFSIDE Watford mascot resigns after criticism
The man behind Harry the Hornet, the high-octane Watford mascot strongly criticised by Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson, has resigned from the role.
Speaking before the sides met at Vicarage Road in August, Hodgson took issue with Harry’s “disgraceful” provocation of Wilfried
Zaha in 2016. The mascot had mocked Zaha by diving in front of him after the Palace winger had been booked for simulation.
Gareth Evans said he was “proud” and “heavy hearted” to be leaving.
At the time of the incident, then Palace manager Sam Allardyce said Harry the Hornet was “out of order” but the Football Association decided not to take disciplinary action against the mascot.
Zaha reacted angrily as he left the pitch at the time but appeared to see the funny side later on when tweeting.
Buckle up!
Lynn Buckle’s latest novel is The Groundsmen but, before you add it to your Christmas wish list, you should perhaps read the resume!
The plot concerns the fractured lives of a family blemished by a darkly disturbing past. The secrets kept hidden over multiple generations taint them all and, as events spiral out of control in a cycle of violence, none of them will escape.
The narrative is told from the perspective
“I told him to take the handbrake off but did he listen...” Sent in by Bob Mills, Head Groundsman of Honourable Artillery Company.
As seen on social media
of five individual family members and over all of them looms the dark presence of the Groundsman’s hut. Sound familiar?
Five years hard labour for groundsman who stole mobile screening unit
A 49-year-old groundsman was sentenced to five years hard labour after he stole a mobile screening unit from the Port of Spain General Hospital.
It was alleged that Vaja Ramroop stole a three-tonne truck valued $250,000 which belonged to the North Central Regional Health Authority.
Ramroop, whilst apologising for his actions, said that he had stolen the vehicle because at the time he wanted to go home, but could not get a lift.
He said he managed to trick a security guard into giving him the keys and he proceeded to take the vehicle.
