Product Update

A round-up of the latest product news announced in recent weeks

Available in Europe from 2019 exclusively on John Deere’s ZTrak 900 Series commercial zero-turn rotary mowers, the new Michelin X Tweel Turf airless radial tyre means customers may never need to buy rear tyres for their zero-turn mowers again.

Following on from their hugely successful INFINICUT® Floating Head Mower, Cub Cadet are launching a new range of INFINICUT Fixed HeadTM mowers. Combining with this new range, the company is also introducing a brand-new cassette which promises to transform the all-important post-match ‘clean up’ cut.

The new INFINICUT Fixed HeadTM enjoys

many of the key benefits of the floating head version and is available in 22”, 26”, 30” and 34” cutting widths.

Industry leading cut quality remains at the centre of Cub Cadet’s design philosophy, with the fixed head model employing the same technology that has seen the floating head mower scoop many industry awards. Being more affordable, the new INFINICUT Fixed Head will help a broader market base to benefit from the numerous advantages of Cub Cadet’s unique cutting- edge technology. Key attributes, such as the Lithium battery power, interchangeable cassette options and quiet operation, come as standard.

With much of the design of the INFINICUT® motivated by the

requirements of industry professionals, the latest cassette innovation from the Cub Cadet TMSystemTM

has also been

developed as a result of continued dialogue with groundsmen. Dissatisfied with the current methods employed to clean debris from sports turf following matches, the new SMARTTurfCleanTM cassette is a patent-pending design to effectively clean turf surfaces.

By attaching the cassette to the INFINICUT® (fixed or floating head versions), not only does it become more cost effective than traditional solutions such as dedicated rotary mowers, but it also performs the task without stressing the plant - a huge benefit when taking into consideration the continued reduction in the availability of chemicals to combat turf disease. Being quieter, gentler, more affordable and more effective than a rotary, the SMARTTurfClean is aptly named.

Toro has announced the launch of the new 36” (91cm) and 48” (122cm) Grandstand® mowers (models 74540TE and 74542TE). They have several enhanced features and accessories including rear discharge and a recycler kit.

The Toro Grandstand combines the speed and comfort of a zero-turn mower with the benefits of a professional walk-behind. The cushioned suspension system, rear discharge deck and twin-levered steering controls also makes mowing easier for the operator.

The Grandstand 36” and 48” both feature a fold- up operator platform to allow the mower to convert to a walk-behind through the simple lowering function. The 36” model also has an ultra-compact footprint, making the mower ideal for smaller residential properties or areas with gates and tight spaces.

Both Grandstand models are available with an optional Recycler® kit, which turns grass clippings into a fine nutrient rich mulch to nourish grass all season.

Unlike traditional pneumatic tyres, the Michelin X Tweel Turf virtually eliminates tyre downtime and is nearly maintenance free. A new Z994R model equipped with X Tweel Turf tyres makes its UK & Ireland show debut on the John Deere stand (E080) at the NEC, Birmingham in November, alongside the company’s latest compact tractor and lawn tractor developments.

Offering a combination of operator comfort, productivity and a high-quality finish, the Z994R is designed to cater for customers looking for a more compact solution to working in restricted spaces. It features a powerful 25hp (18.4kW) diesel engine together with a heavy-duty frame and a belt-driven deck for optimum power efficiency. High output is further achieved by the 137cm (54in) 7-Iron PRO side-discharge rotary mower deck.

The Z994R excels in the toughest mowing conditions while also providing the fuel economy, compact size and durability that

commercial customers value. It also offers a range of options designed to increase operator comfort and reduce fatigue during long working hours, as well as delivering lower operating costs and improved performance.

These options include the new Michelin X Tweel Turf tyre, which avoids downtime from punctures when compared to traditional pneumatic tyres. It has the same dimensions and bolt pattern as a standard tyre, but features automotive rubber technology that allows the tread to last up to three times longer. The Tweel also reduces ground compaction and increases ride quality, which is enhanced by the mower’s new ComfortGlide seat.

All new John Deere products will be available at John Deere dealerships in the UK and Ireland from spring 2019.

MLR, the international sports supplementary lighting business, has launched a new lighting rig specifically designed for golf courses - the first of its kind in the sports turf industry.

MLR has provided mobile lighting solutions to sports arenas since 1998 and has now utilised innovative technologies to develop the ‘Orn’ rig to provide mobile lighting solutions for problematic greens and fairways.

Working with its global distributor, Bernhard and Company, the ‘Orn’ joins MLR’s range of supplementary lighting rigs that service a multitude of sports stadiums.

The Orn is compact and easy to move around the course to spot treat problem areas. It can be disassembled in less than 30 minutes, so it's easy to store when not in use.

MLR general manager, Hermann Sather, said: “MLR is proud to launch the world’s first supplementary lighting rig designed specifically for golf. There’s a great deal of pressure on greenkeepers to produce quality surfaces all year round, and the Orn can be a crucial weapon in that battle.”

“This is our first venture into the golf market, but it won’t be our last. Expect more exciting developments in the near future!”
