Beauty news and trends for this season

One way to make

your fragrance last longer is to spritz some in your hair as well as on your

skin. But spray perfumes can

dry your hair out. Instead, use an oil-based perfume: add a

couple of drops to your fingertips then run them through your hair (oil-based perfumes will last longer in your hair too).

Autumn face trends

This season there are many make-up trends to try – here are our favourites:

Natural brows According to the experts at beautypress.com, naturally full brows are still on trend. For the most natural result, choose a brow pencil colour that’s lighter than your natural hair colour and apply with short strokes. Finish off with a clear brow gel.

Partially smudged eyes Applying eyeliner all the way around your eyes can make them look small. Line the outside third of your upper and lower lids with a soft pencil eyeliner. Then take your little finger and gently smudge the eyeliner down into the lash line and blend towards the centre of the eyelid.

Go red This season bold red lips will be everywhere. Choose a blue-based red for fair skin, an orange-based red for olive skin, or a deep red with blue undertones for dark skin.

Nail allergy alert

The British Association of Dermatologists has warned that acrylate chemicals are causing allergies in an increasing number of women in the UK and Ireland. The chemicals are key ingredients in acrylic nails, gel nails and gel polish.

38 All About health Allergic reactions may

involve the nails loosening or a severe red, itchy rash, not just on the fingertips but potentially anywhere on the body that has come into contact with the chemicals.

How to have a healthy glow

Complexions can become dull during cold weather. So this season, here's how to get a healthy but natural glow. Try to make sure your skin is as

hydrated as possible by using plenty of moisturiser, applied when your skin is still a little damp. You may need a richer moisturiser at this time of year than your summer product – ask your local Careway pharmacist to recommend one that would suit your skin type. To lift your eyes, use a smoky brown

eyeshadow to complement bold brows, and add just a touch of bronzer to define your cheekbones. To finish the look, apply a natural

lipstick colour that will give your skintone a natural boost.

Skincare spending

British women are spending more than ever on facial skincare, says marketing research company Mintel. In 2017, the amount women spent on facial skincare products was

on the up

£1.15 billion

Facial cleansers were the most popular product, used by 92 per cent of women (55 per cent use face wash, but facial cleansing wipes and micellar water are gaining in popularity). Day and night cream are also widely

used, with day cream used by 59 per cent of British women in 2017 and night cream used by 39 per cent. Meanwhile, 62 per cent of British women who use facial skincare say sleep has the biggest impact on the appearance of their skin, compared with other factors such as diet and drinking water.
