Yoga gets the thumbs up
If you want to sleep better and enjoy less
stress when you’re pregnant, try doing yoga. According to experts writing in the Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology Research,
practising yoga during your third trimester may offer several benefits. These include
Milk doesn’t make coughs worse
Experts from London’s Royal Brompton Hospital say there’s no truth in the old wives’ tale to avoid dairy foods or drinks when you have a cold. There’s no scientific proof that giving children milk will increase the amount of mucus they produce, the experts claim. The researchers also suggest it’s important that parents
don’t avoid giving their children milk, as it’s an important source of energy, calcium, vitamins and minerals. They also point out that children who don’t drink milk are shorter, have reduced bone mineral density and a higher risk of fractures than children who do drink milk. The study has been published in the journal Archives of Disease in Childhood.
activation of the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for bodily functions when at rest.
Too much
screen time makes kids inactive
Children are becoming increasingly sedentary – and this is strongly linked with the amount of time they spend using screen-based devices, say experts from the American Heart Association.
According to the experts, current estimates suggest that children and teenagers aged 8 - 18 spend more than seven
hours a day using screens. But all that sitting means they’re not using up much energy, and that can contribute to weight problems.
The experts recommend parents set a good example by limiting their own screen use and by setting up rules around screen time, such as time limits. Try using
the Screentime app to help manage the time your children spend on their digital devices (visit
