This year’s Level 2 School Games Girls Football festival took place on grass at Avon Valley College. On a windy day 9 schools competed for the golden ticket to get them to the level 3 final. The competition was a round robin with the team winning the most points being crowned the champions. The games were very close and as the festival progressed the standard of play increased. As it was a girls only festival we only had female students from Avon Valley College taking on the role of the official. Year 10’s Jorgia and Shannon refereed every game while the year 9’s Jazz, Megan, Skye, Jess, Sophie, Erin and Elizabeth ran the

St John’s Cluster Hi 5 Netball Festival took place at Marlborough College in November 2016. There were two competitions, the A competition where the winner would go on to the Level 3 final, teams had to be of 9 players with a maximum of 3 boys. The B competition could be made up of any number of players and any ratio of boys and girls. In total we had 220 pupils playing netball. Many of these matches finished as a draw. It was very cold and windy but this didn’t affect the pupils performances over the four hours that the competition ran for. Students from Avon Valley College who themselves play Netball took charge umpiring, scoring, timing and running the results

The second Hi 5 Festival took place at Wellington Academy. Schools were split into 2 pools, this was followed by semi finals and then the final. Matches were 8 minutes one way, and due to not being able to lower the Netball posts we gave schools 1 point if they the hit the ring and 2 points if they scored.
Matches were played over 3 courts and thank you to Wellington students who helped by scoring, umpiring, and
time keeping. The standard of play was very good, with great passing and using the space well.
