All Stars Cricket

Throughout March and April, primary schools across Wiltshire have been receiving visits from our community coach and All Stars Cricket champion, Josh Boulton, who has been working with key stage 1 students to promote Cricket’s exciting new offer; All Stars Cricket.

All Stars Cricket is a brand new initiative from the England and Wales Cricket Board aimed at providing children aged five to eight with a great first experience in cricket. The programme is delivered across England and Wales at over 1,500 fully accredited All Stars Cricket centres. It is a fun and active way to develop your child’s skills, and through our eight-week programme they will learn lots – as well as make new friends – in a safe and inclusive environment.

All girls and boys are welcome, and each registered child will receive a pack of cricket goodies including a cricket bat, ball, backpack, water bottle,

Squash Festival

In a year 7/8 triangular squash match arranged by squash development officer, Dax Mellor, and held at Marlborough College, St Johns came out on top by beating both Devizes and Dorcan. This event gave novice squash players a chance to play against other opponents from different schools and helped promote junior Grand Prix competitions around the county.

Netball Festival

An exciting Calne Primary schools Netball festival was held at John Bentley School, Calne. Cherhill were victorious over Heddington.

Heddington had earlier edged past St Edmunds in a ‘shoot out’ after pool results had revealed identical records. Many thanks to John Bentley for hosting and providing excellent young officials.

I very sadly lost two very special and dear friends Millie and Jackson last year. I know my life changed that day as did their family and friends. Millie and I talked about going to Wales together, so in their memory I decided to set myself a challenge to swim the distance from Warminster to the Principality Stadium, Cardiff and back within 78 days, that’s 156 miles, 9984 lengths of the pool to raise funds to buy a memorial bench to be placed within the grounds of Kingdown School for all of us to have a common special place to cherish, share our memories and thoughts.

I have had plenty of up and down days, but thinking about Millie and Jackson and all of the happy memories we’ve created together has driven me to get up at 6am every morning to complete at least one mile (64 lengths) and then to return in the evening to complete my second mile. Along the way, I’ve meet some wonderful, kind hearted people who have given me advice in the changing room as well as support in the pool in the morning. My club coach has also helped me enormously with his encouragement and compassion. Amazing people! Thank you ever so much.

I’ve been so overwhelmed by the support I have recieved never did I think I’d get this amount of support. My last mile, not a day I was looking forward to! This was split into two sections, 48 lengths to be completed with a very early morning start; alarm set for 5:30am as BBC Wiltshire radio came to interview me live on poolside and also made a video. The last 16 lengths (400m) of our special trip were to be swam in club that evening.

Salli, Jamie and Steve came down to watch my last 400m and I’m extremely grateful to them as I know how difficult this was; it was a huge honour and privilege. As usual the club swimmers

all gathered down the deep end waiting for our instructions from our coach (Tone), I did notice however that there were an awful lot of people sat on poolside, it’s normally fairly quiet on a Friday.

I remember feeling quite anxious, but for some reason Tone decided to talk to us a little longer than he normally does and promptly put me in a lane all to myself. All of a sudden I caught a glimpse of a white GB jacket and then clocked the blonde hair. WOW! It’s only Stephanie Millward MBE (Double Paralympic GOLD medalist), one of my heroes! I’m shocked and suprised to find out she would be swimming alongside me. Emotional overload moment...

Stephanie asked if she could swim the last 400m with me and of course I said ‘YES’. As we came down on our final length, the noise increased on poolside. We made it! Lots of cwtch’s (hugs) from everyone before I was whisked away for another interview. Swimming completed ALL 9984 lengths, 156 miles, three days ahead of schedule. Stephanie then showed us all her medals and her Olympic torch; I was able to catch up with all my family and friends. An extremely emotional evening that couldn’t have been done without so much help and support from everyone, the love and support from my Mum. I’m so grateful, it has left me speechless at times, massive thank you to everyone who has been involved in our journey.
