RIBS will be well and truly tick- led in this October, when award- winning funny-man, Tucker, pays Suffolk a visit with his hilarious laughter show. The Eastbourne based come-

dian will be making his debut performance at the splendid Leiston Film Theatre on Friday 19th October, with his one-man show, packed full of tongue-in- cheek wit, that has seen him become one of the UK’s top stand-up comedians. His ‘cheeky chappie’ antics

have taken him all over the world, making audiences laugh wherever he goes, although he is more fondly remembered throughout East Anglia, as one of the formidable stars of Cromer’s famous end of the pier show for many years, before spreading his comedy wings and working alongside famous names including George Ben- son, Johnny Mathis, Smokey Robinson and the one and only Bradley Walsh. Tucker has also appeared on

numerous summer seasons, pan- tomimes and television shows including The Big Stage and The Michael Ball Show and has even performed aboard the world famous QE2. Described as a generator of

laughter who simply doesn’t have to try to be funny, Tucker’s

comedy comes from real life and good gag writing, combined with a warm personality and a natural style of delivery that is quite unique. His obvious love of people and his clean, funny material and song, always hits the target, making him an extremely versatile artiste. Leiston Film Theatre manag-

er, Wayne Burns, is looking for- ward to welcoming Tucker to their prestigious venue. “Tucker is just one of many names on a list of performers that I’ve been determined to secure for an appearance at the Film Theatre. I first saw him perform on Cromer Pier, reducing the audience to tears of laughter and I know that our audience will absolutely love what he brings to the stage.” he said. Tucker will be supported by

the award-winning Soul singer, Craig Garrett, who returns after a summer tour of the Mediterra- nean to perform a selection of Soul, Motown and R&B songs. Tucker is looking forward to

visiting Suffolk again and espe- cially a venue that he’s heard so much about from fellow per- formers. “It’s been surprising how many other artistes have praised this particular venue, it’s staff and most importantly, the audience. I’m really excited about playing a new theatre, especially one that is apparently so well loved. I hear the fish and chips are nice too!” he said. The Tucker Show appears at

LIVE at the Leiston Film The- atre on Friday 19th October at 7.30pm. Tickets for this unmissable show are priced at £14.95 and £12.95 for conces- sions. Early booking is strongly advised on 01728 830549 or via the venue’s website at: www. leistonfilmtheatre.co.uk

Seraphim’s autumn musical pilgrimage set to be pure gold

SUFFOLK’S highly acclaimed, all-female vocal group, Sera- phim, has hand-picked some Broadland and north Suffolk church gems - each home to glo- rious or gilded painted screens - for their autumn musical pil- grimage on Sunday 7th October. The intimate and all-inclusive

full day ‘pilgrimage’ features four mini-concerts of especially collected exquisite works for upper voices, programmed and presented to perfection by emi- nent director, Vetta Wise - a much admired and unique for- mula which has already wooed past ‘pilgrims’ as they enjoyed themed, ‘divinely different days’ out around the hidden villages of Suffolk and Norfolk. “East Anglia has some really

wonderful survivals and revivals when it comes painted rood screens, even in its most rural churches,” enthuses Ms Wise, who formed Halesworth-based Seraphim in 2014. “The exqui-

site paintings were just part of the rich and awe-inspiring reli- gious picture in medieval times. Their colours may have faded over the centuries, but with a delicate gilding of fine musical context, how they come back to life in their full glory!” This October’s pilgrims are

assured of many golden moments when the eight incred- ible voices of Seraphim fill the secret spaces of the ‘Cathedral of the Broads’, St Helen’s at Ranworth and St Michael’s and All Angels, Barton Turf (both amongst England’s finest rood screen survivals); St John the Baptist at Lound (with 20th cen- tury shining ‘wonders’ by Nini- an Comper) and St Peter & St John, Kirkley (home to a replica of a rare wrought-iron screen and a place associated with Sir Benjamin Britten in his child- hood). Evocative soundscapes from Monteverdi and Palestrina will

be complemented by works from a wide range of composers including Poulenc and living composer, Gjielo. “The painted screens were created as expres- sions of joyful beauty and have become national treasures - they deserve to be celebrated, and when better than amidst the golden ambers of autumn?” A gentle journey, an unhurried

day of surprises and unique experiences, Seraphim’s musi- cal pilgrimage on Sunday 7th October includes morning and afternoon refreshments, a sit- down lunch with waterside views and escorted coach travel from a range of local pick-up points. Tickets cost £69 per per- son, but book before September 14th and enjoy an early bird offer of just £62. For further details and tickets,
