Leiston Film Theatre News
FIRSTLY, I must say an enor- mous thank you to everyone who has supported us throughout the heatwave! Of course, having a film like Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again helps, but the summer period is a very important time for our business and thousands of you still ventured out in the high temperatures to sit in our some- what cooler auditorium to sing- along with ABBA, so thank you all. I did offer to come around and cool a few customers down with a wet flannel, but nobody accept- ed my offer! Before I share what’s coming
up at Leiston Film Theatre in September, I am thrilled to be able to confirm that the foot- stomping celebration of Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody, will be showing at our venue from the UK release date of Friday 26th October. The hotly anticipated film celebrates the music of Queen and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury, who defied stereotypes to become one of the most beloved enter- tainers on the planet. The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound, but in an unexpected turn Freddie pur- sues an unsuccessful solo career, reuniting with his band-mates for Live Aid, leading the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music. Tickets will be on sale very soon, so make sure you book early to secure yours – especially for those fashionable premier seats! September offers a mixed bag
of films and events, with literally something for everyone. Dis- ney’s entirely charming Christo- pher Robin (PG) stars Ewan McGregor as an adult Christo- pher Robin, who is now focused on his new life, work, and family. When he is unexpectedly reunit- ed with his old childhood friend, Winnie the Pooh, the pair return to the Hundred Acre Wood to help find Pooh’s lost friends. On screen for one week only from Friday 31st August. Emma Thompson is receiving critical acclaim for her role in The
Children Act (12A), which also stars Stanley Tucci and is show- ing from Friday 7th September. As her marriage flounders, an eminent High Court Judge Fiona has a life-changing decision to make at work - should she force a teenage boy to have the blood transfusion that will save his life? Her unorthodox visit to his hospi- tal bedside has a profound impact on them both, stirring strong new emotions in the boy and long- buried feelings in her. Special events for September
include Opera Australia’s presen- tation of Puccini’s beloved opera, La Bohème (12A), which is cap- tured on the spectacular setting of Sydney Harbour and is showing on Thursday 13th September at 7pm. A week later, on Thursday 20th September, we’re screening The Australian Ballet’s The Merry Widow (U) – a lively tale, set in the ballrooms and salons of Belle Époque Paris. Tickets for each event are only £14.95 and are available from our box office on 01728 830549, or via the web- site at: www.leistonfilmtheatre.
co.uk. Mila Kunis and Kate McKin-
non star as best friends, who unwittingly become entangled in an international conspiracy when one of the women discovers the boyfriend who dumped her was actually a spy, in the action-com- edy The Spy Who Dumped Me (15) – on screen from Friday 14th September. Marvel’s Anta-Man and the
Wasp (12A) is showing in 3D and 2D for four days only from Fri- day 21st September, so please do check film dates and times care- fully!
September comes to close with
two brilliant lives shows, plus the outrageous film The Happytime Murders (15), which stars Melis- sa McCarthy and is set in the seedy underbelly of Los Angeles, where puppets and humans coex- ist. When two clashing detectives with a shared secret, one human and one puppet, are forced to work together again to solve the brutal murders of the former cast of a beloved classic puppet tele- vision show. Absolutely bizarre, but hugely entertaining – you’ll never look at The Muppets in the same light again! On screen from Friday 28th September. Big Band fans can look for-
ward to the return of the Swing Machine Big Band on Saturday 22nd September. The show is in aid of our Film Theatre Support Club, with tickets priced at £12.95, £11.95 for concessions and £10.95 for Support Club Members. We’re also thrilled to be bringing Country music back to Leiston Film Theatre on Thursday 27th September, when world class Pedal Steel Guitarist, multi-instrumentalist and vocal- ist, Sarah Jory and band make their debut appearance at our venue, as part of her 40th anni- versary tour. Tickets are priced £15 and are now on sale. Coming to our stage and screen
soon, Cliff Richard, A Star Is Born, Bohemian Rhapsody and the very, very funny comedian, Tucker, but more about this next time. As always, for our very latest
