THE WAVENEY BIRD CLUB

The Waveney Bird Club was formed in 2008 and we now have around 185 members. Anyone can join whether you are a beginner with little knowledge about birds to an experienced bird- watcher who wants to join others. We very much welcome young people and apply no membership charge. Recent talks have included – A mem- ber’s trip to the Galapagos Islands, and the Suffolk Barn Owl Project. We have been fortunate enough to have David Lindo (The Urban Birder) and Lolo Wil- liams (Spring Watch) speaking to us. Our outings and trips have included the Brecks and Hazelwood Marshes. We are very involved in local projects. We are trying to raise Swift Awareness especially in Bungay. These birds are in deep decline and here in Bungay we are trying to get people to put up Swift box- es and keep roof spaces open so they have places to nest, raise chicks and bring on the next generation. We have strong ties with the RSPB Mins- mere and the National Trust at Dunwich where every Summer we hold ringing demonstrations for people to come and see the birds up close and talk to some of our birding experts. For further information about the Waveney Bird Club please see our web site at waveneybirdclub.com Contact the secretary Rebecca Bedwell on 01986 781436 Or secretary@waveneybirdclub.com

THE RIVER WAVENEY TRUST

The River Waveney Trust is a charity formed from the River Waveney Asso- ciation founded in March 2012. We are part of the national Rivers Trust move- ment. We have 5 local groups in Diss, Harleston, Bungay, Beccles and Lowest- oft/Oulton Broad undertaking various projects. The Trust and its members care for the river, its ecology, water quality and envi- ronment guided by our local Broadland Catchment Plan. We place a big empha- sis on working with our local communi- ties. The Trust has long term partner- ships with the statutory bodies which have a responsibility for the river. We are currently running several major projects, including the refurbishment of Geldeston Lock, tackling Invasive Spe- cies, environmental enhancement at Frenze Beck Reserve at Diss and an Eel project (currently on the tidal reach). Three eel passes have previously been constructed at Bungay, Earsham and Mendham weirs with a £25k grant from the Environment Agency Keith Lead, Chair of the Trustee Board August 2018
