LOCAL CLUBS

BUNGAY CHERRY TREE ANGLING CLUB

The Bungay Cherry Tree Angling Club has a long history, started in 1947 by local fishermen, two of whom still fish today. The club has a wide range of wa- ters, both river and still water. The river stretches include the upper Waveney, Bungay Common and the Dunburgh stretch at Gillingham. The Dunburgh stretch has seen parking made available within 30 yards of the river making it very accessible for the elder angler and is an awesome piece of river to fish. The prime still waters are the Layby Pit at Earsham which has been slowly devel- oped by the club over the past six years after it had to let its old club pit go. The lake holds good Bream, Tench, Crucians, Perch, Roach and Carp. Best catches to date are Bream of 14lb, Tench of 10lb and Carp of 19lb. The Ellingham Hall Lake is an idyllic venue and an ideal venue to boost one’s confidence in catching fish, or to teach a junior how to catch fish in the correct way. It holds lots of Carp, Bream, Roach and Perch. Finally, there is the Common Pond on Bungay Common which holds good Carp, Crucians and Roach, as well as some really good sized Perch. The club is run on a totally voluntary ba- sis with its committee and bailiffs giving their time freely to check licences etc.
