Musée Somme 1916 Somme
The Battle of the Somme, fought between British/French and German forces, cost one million human lives. The subterranean 1916 Museum in the Somme département, Hauts-de-France, sheds some light on the experiences of those who died. The underground tunnel is lined with exhibits presenting objects and weapons used; and a wintery trench scene puts you in the mud-laden shoes of the soldiers.
