Miglior and Anna-Kate Shoveller were recently recognized for their inno- vative work on animal re- search in Vancouver, Canada. On July 9th 2018,
Miglior and Shoveller were among the 2018 award recipients hon- oured by the American Society of Animal Sci- ence. They received the Rockefeller
Prentice
Award in Animal Breed- ing and Genetics and Corbin Award in Companion Animal Biology, respec- tively. “I love my job,” says Miglior.
“It’s an honour and so rewarding to be recognized by my peers with such a prestigious award.” The Rockefeller Prentice Award in
Animal Breeding and Genetics is meant to inspire and stimulate research excellence in breeding and genetics. Miglior leads a $10.3-million
project with Genome Canada. Working with international partners in Aus- tralia, Switzerland, Denmark,
the
United Kingdom and the United States, Filippo is developing genetic solutions to improve feed efficiency

and reduce methane gas emissions. His aim is to enhance the way dairy cows digest their feed while maximizing milk production, and reducing feed waste and methane emissions. The Corbin Award in Companion
Animal Biology recognizes and in- spires research and teaching excel- lence in companion animal biology. “I was one of Canada’s first hires
for basic companion animal nutrition research as well as the first Canadian to win the Corbin Award,” says Shov- eller. “I even received the award on Canadian soil, which makes it pretty special to me. I feel honoured to be among some very phenomenal com- panion animal scientist to receive this award.”
