cheltonian interiors Trend:Modern Oriental

AbiPartridgeof Just Fabrics shares her expert advice on incorporating the newest trend ‘ModernOriental’ into your home

Amodern take on the oriental look, this trend has appeared across interiors this Spring and Summer season.Oriental styling has been around since the late 17thCentury whenwe first started tradingwith China, itwas popular as an interior style in the 1920s and is emerging again.Aswe are looking to brighten our homes, add colour and cosiness, themodern oriental style is upliftingwith pretty, intricate details, natural elements and helps to create harmony and balance in our homes. This newtakemoves away from

the heavy reds, black, and golds from earlier iterations and towards brighter, bolder colourswith shades of pink and greens, blues and turquoises. It is an accessible style for timeless andmodern homes alike and can be used as accents against plain backgrounds ormulti layered for an eclectic look.

FURNITURE This look uses bamboo chairs and Chinese style cupboardswith metallic details and fittings.Chinese furniture is often small and portable which fits themodern lifestyle. Deeply lacquered furniture for a glossy sheen is a feature of this style. Screens and bamboo tray tables can be used in different rooms and moved easily if youwant a change. You couldwallpaper the doors of a plainwardrobewith a chinoiserie patternedwallpaper to add a touch of the orient.
