The Porcilis range of ID vac- cines does include individual vaccines for EP and PCV2, but the Peddars’ team like the con- venience of the intra-muscular, single-dose, PCV M Hyo combi- nation vaccine. “We’d prefer to do all our vac- cinations with IDAL, as it’s easy, more hygienic and stress-free, but the single-dose combina- tion EP and PCV2 vaccine suits us at the moment,” says Mr Sut- ton. “We know MSD has devel- opments in the pipeline that might let us to go completely needle-free in near future, and that’s probably what we’ll do.”
Valued logistics Production manager Ewan Saile agrees. He supervises four of Ped- dars’ breeding sites and says vac- cination is now an integral part of the company’s health manage- ment strategy. “We’re using more vaccines to protect our pigs against key dis- eases, which is the right way for- ward, and our productivity is ris- ing too,” says Mr Saile.
