Join council to make a difference to parish

BEARSTED Parish Council (BPC) is seeking to co-opt three new councillors following the retirement of three members.

One of the members retired due Information in

village booklet BEARSTED’S parish booklet is now well underway and should be finished in August, ready for print- ing and circulation in September. This first edition will last until

March 2020, when a revised edition will be circulated. All houses in Bearsted will re-

ceive a free copy, which will con- tain information about the village and its activities on offer, as well as local shops and businesses. The booklet will also contain

emergency numbers and will give relevant information to direct resi- dents to the correct departments that deal with local issues. If you are a business or club in

Bearsted and you wish to check that your information is included, please email admin@bearsted- parishcouncil.gov.uk. Anyone wishing to place an ad-

vert in the booklet, subject to space available, must do so by emailing the parish office before August 10.

Bloom blow

IT IS with regret that the Bearsted in Bloom competition has been postponed until June next year, with applications opening in April. This decision has been taken re-

luctantly due to the extreme heat and dry weather, resulting in some entries being withdrawn. The parish council is pleased to

confirm that Notcutts, sponsors of event, will continue to support it next year.

Sharing news

REFURBISHMENT of the village noticeboards is now under way and should be completed by the end of July. The boards are an im- portant way of sharing information with residents about events and council meetings.

Help to keep The Green clean

THERE have been many discussions on how we can stop rubbish being spread across The Green in Bearsted. There are several bins around The Green, but not all are used to their full

extent, apart from two placed by the pond. The parish council politely asks visitors to use another bin should the

nearest one be full, or take rubbish home with them. Leaving litter in a plastic bag allows foxes and vermin to pierce the sacks

and spread unsightly rubbish, which costs time and unnecessary expense to clear up.

Sunday market set to return

THE parish council is pleased to announce that it will be re- launching the Market on Sun- day, September 23. BPC has conducted surveys

and data collected has con- cluded a preference for the re- turn of a Sunday market. It is hoped that returning to a

to work commitments, and two others retired on grounds of ill health. Applicants should be able to give

up time to assist with working groups and be available for full council meetings held in the evening of every fifth Tuesday. They should also be willing to join committees which also meet on Tuesday evenings, between full councilmeetings. BPC is moving forward with

newplans for the coming year and needs newand fresh ideas tomake improvements to our community,

as well as keeping the village in good order. Chairman Cllr Michael Bollom

said: “As a relative newcomer to the parish council, I can say that it is very rewarding to be able to put something back into the commu- nitywe live in. “I look around the council and its

hard-working, dedicatedmembers have a wealth of experience from allwalks of life. “They all share the common pur-

pose ofmaking this parish a pleas- ant, clean and safe place to live, with thriving community events. So if you’d like tomake a difference

to Bearsted parish, then we’d love to hear fromyou.” Please apply in writing to the

clerk at the parish office, or email clerk@bearstedparishcouncil.gov.uk. Successful applicants should be prepared to join the council in Sep- tember.  COUNCILLORS congratulated Cllr Richard Ash on the recent an- nouncement that he has been made an MBE in Queen’s Birth- day Honours’ list. He was presented with a bottle

of bubbly at the start of July’s full council meeting and received a round of applause.

Costs to use

open spaces DUE to increased maintenance costs, Bearsted Parish Council will be introducing charges for use of both The Green and the Elizabeth Harvie field from January 1, 2019, in line with other local parishes. Charges will be applicable to all

chargeable activities in these areas, such as training sessions etc. Those wishing to use the Green or

the Elizabeth Harvie field next year, and who are making a charge for their services, will require permis- sion from Bearsted Parish Council and will be liable for charges where applicable. The proposed tariff can be found

on the BPC website and will be put up on the noticeboard on The Green. Charitable events will still be re-

quired to apply in the normal way, and subject to circumstances, may be excluded from relevant charges. Please contact the parish office for further information.

July 30 until August 10. To book a place, visit the parish council’s web- site.
