Sun shines on county show
SCORCHING hot weather and England’s unexpected run of success in the World Cup led to a slight dip in visitor numbers at the Kent County Show. But tens of thousands still poured
into the Detling showground to enjoy 450 stands and the daily high- light of theHouseholdCavalryMu- sical Ride taking centre stage. More than 74,000 people from
across the country convergedon the showon July 6, 7 and 8. Organisers created fan zones
across the site, so that people could watch England’s victory over Swe- den on the Saturday afternoon. A spokesman said: “The football,
unexpectedly, andthe heatprobably did have an effect on numbers, but it was still a fantastic county show. The feedback has been brilliant. “We are receiving so many posi-
tive comments frompeople andthat has been great.” Next year sees the 90th Kent
County Showandthe organisers are already planning special anniver- sary events. Lord Colgrain, show president,
paid tribute to outgoing chairman KevinAttwood, saying: “We are all indebted to his firmleadership and passion, hewill bemissed.”
