The latest health and Detox delights!

You don’t need to splash out on expensive detox kits. Here’s how to detox the natural way…

• Try to increase the amount of fibre that you eat from foods such as rice or oat bran, as these are classed as more ‘gentle’ sources

• Always try to eat slowly and chew your food well as this will help to ensure a healthy bowel function

• Aim to support your liver function by eating natural, organic foods, such as eggs, broccoli, Brussel sprouts and cabbage, as these contain sulphur

• Increase your intake of raw vegetable juices and remember to incorporate as many colours as possible by including beetroot, carrots, kale and chard

• Up the amount of exercise you take as this will help to pump the blood around your body and ensure that your extremities (hands, feet etc) will be cleansed thanks to a fresh supply of blood

Fitness essential from early years!

Children who are fitter during childhood and adolescence have better lung function as young adults, say experts writing in the European Respiratory Journal. Good lung function in early adult life may lower the risk of lung diseases, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), in later life.

Fizzy drinks affect fertility

Experts discover new test for autism

Researchers from the University of Warwick have found that children with autism have higher levels of damage to a particular protein compared to those who don’t. This discovery, they say, could lead to the use of blood and urine tests to diagnose the condition. Currently, autism is notoriously difficult to diagnose, with diagnosis carried out through behavioural tests and assessments. Writing in the Molecular Autism Journal, the experts say their findings could help improve diagnosis as well as rule out false diagnoses.

Canned sugary drinks have been linked with the development of a number of health problems, including weight gain and Type 2 diabetes. Now, researchers believe they may also affect a woman’s chances of conceiving. Writing in the journal Epidemiology, the scientists revealed that having one or more sugar-sweetened drinks a day – by either partner – is linked to a lower chance of conceiving.

Mums urged to check their maternal mental health

Around 70 per cent of new mums may not be aware that they’re suffering from maternal mental health and related issues, but now a new app has been launched which will help them to check their symptoms. The app - Moment Health – is designed to allow mums to acknowledge that they may be suffering from such issues and to seek help – help which may ultimately save their life. Moment Health is part of a new campaign - #CheckYourSymptoms – which will allow new and expectant parents to check their symptoms and catch any issues early.
