PACIFIC SYMPHONY MAKING BEAUTIFUL

MUSIC SINCE 1979 by tom andrew

The Pacific Symphony has been delighting audiences for decades with performances inside and out since 1979. Founded by Keith Clark, the great backstory is

that he assembled the orchestra in the kitchen of his home in Fullerton, CA. and that it was started on a grant of $2,000. Clark was the orchestra’s first music director and began assembling his orchestra from the many musicians in the local area. People who worked at universities, movie studios, theatres and performing arts organizations in the area. Many of the musicians were also concertmasters and had worked with other well-known orchestras. A truly amazing story of hard work, sheer exuberance and the love of music. Since Clark’s departure in 1998, Pacific

Symphony, like many other musical organiza- tions, has seen good and bad times over the years. But Louis Spisto, the symphony’s marketing director, was determined to give the orchestra a more “world class” reputation and at the same time, give musicians in the orchestra tenure rights. The symphony went through a series of

guest conductors and by 1990 they offered the position to Carl St. Clair, who accepted the position and remains the music director of Pacific Symphony today. During St. Clair’s tenure with the group, he has

dedicated his time and considerable talents to performing new works from new composers. He is also responsible for taking the orchestra on their first highly-acclaimed European tour. A tour that included nine cities, in three countries, playing to sold-out houses. One of the highlights of Pacific Symphony’s season is their summer concert series, started in 1987 and known currently as Summerfest. The event originally took place at The Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre and continued there until 2016. Currently, Summerest takes place at the Pacific Amphitheatre at the Orange County Fairgrounds located in Costa Mesa, first offered at this current location last year. Over the years the series has brought many

well-known, world-class musicians and performers, including pop legend, Kenny Loggins and their inaugural SummerFest year also gave patrons the West Coast Premiere of

Fair & Event Center stage with the Pacific Symphony onThursday, July 12. Return to the ’60s and ’70s for this special night with the Original Jersey Boy, Frankie Valli, and the men of The Four Seasons. His unmistakable voice, mixed with the unforgettalbe Four Seasons, will be accompanied by Pacific Symphony performing hits like “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You,” “My Eyes Adored You,” “Sherry” and “Big Girls Don’t Cry.” As a part of Pacific Symphony’s“Symphony in

the Cities” series, you‘ll have two opportunities for enjoying their world class music. OnSaturday, July 28 join them at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way in Mission Viejo for Prelude in the Park and then onSunday, July 29, join them in Irvine at the Mike Ward Community Park, Woodbridge 20 Lake Road in Irvine. T. the Extra Terrestrial, performed live with the music of Academy award-winning composer John Williams’ sweeping score.
