L.A. Black Pride:
Back to the Beach In 1988 a group of friends came
together to raise social and political awareness in the Black Gay scene in Los Angeles. The HIV & AIDS epidemic was especially high there and it was a time when we were losing many friends, brothers and loved ones to the disease. Since then L.A. Black Pride has been working to bring together community members to promote Black culture and to celebrate. In that tradition, they are once again, for the 30th year in 2018, “bringing it” with several events in

The LGBT Center O.C. Queer Prom Many LGBTQ people don’t gaze upon their
proms, that high school “rite of passage,” with fondness… mostly because of intolerance and fear. The LGBT Center O.C. is working to change that memory by providing a chance to create “lemonade from lemons” at their inclusive Queer Prom taking place at CO4 (LGBT Center on 4th in Santa Ana)Saturday, July 14. All Orange County LGBT, questioning and allied youth between the ages 14-20 are invited for a lively evening full of dancing, music and entertainment at a stellar event that truly embraces gender diversity. All identities, expressions and genders are
welcome, so come decked out in your favorite tuxes, gowns, or what-makes-you- comfortable-outfits…whatever you deem appropriate. Create new memories, after all it’s your queer prom. So, dance the night away at the LGBT Center O.C.’s Queer Youth Prom! For more information, go to

Saddle Up L.A. We think we’ve found the
perfect old-time theme song for this year’s Saddle Up L.A. “I can see by your outfit that you are a cowboy…These words he did say as I boldly walked by. I was once in the saddle, I used to go dashing. Once in the saddle, I used to go gay…” We kid you not, those are “The Streets of Lorado’s” actual song lyrics! Come join the fun at
the 13th annual Saddle Up L.A., taking placeSaturday, July 14. It’s time to “dust of that Stetson and polish up your boots” for the annual barbeque fundraiser and horseback ride through the beautiful hills of L.A.’s Griffith Park. Monies raised go to help provide financial support to Life Group L.A., so they may continue providing education, empowerment and support to persons infected and affected by HIV/AIDS and to remind folks of the fact that the AIDS pandemic is not over. No riding experience is necessary, all levels of cowpoke are welcome, so come and enjoy the scenery as you are led by seasoned and experienced guides. Not a fan of saddles? Join Saddle Up L.A. and Master of Ceremonies Mike Hennessey for music and dancing (line dancing lessons included) with DJ Rick and the L.A. Wranglers. You can also support this worthy cause by registering as a “fundraising friend” or by purchasing a ticket and joining them for the barbecue/ party only. Trans Pride O.C. There are many colors that make up
the beauty that is the LGBT spectrum and Pride takes many forms. In its best expression we as a community offer many opportunities for inclusion and The LGBT Center O.C., The LGBT Center on 4th and Transitions Health and Well- ness recognize the importance of that concept. Each year each organization
strives to offer opportunities for the trans community to celebrate their unique- ness by offering a Pride celebration geared towards them. OnSaturday, July 28 at CO4 and Plaza Calle Cuatro in Downtown Santa Ana, organizers once again open the doors to a weekend of events geared to what is often an underserved community. Highlights include a resource fair, free health screenings provided by U.C. Irvine Family Health Clinic, free HIV testing, information on insurance, healthcare and affirming physicians, as well as keynote speaker Christine Garcia, who is the first trans identifiable police officer in San Diego. The LGBT Center on 4th is located at 305 E. 4th Street in Santa Ana. For more information, call 714.953.5428 or go to
