Boxit

training while working all the major mus- cle groups. But why sweat it out in a dingy boxing gym or crammed into one of the hugely oversubscribed classes on offer at most gyms? Boxit takes you outside of the smelly ring to Clapham Common just op- posite Clapham Common South tube sta- tion. Tey’re flexible too. You can drop in to a class, sign up for a block of classes or take out a membership. Classes are de- signed for everyone from total novice to practically professional and they provide all the equipment needed, so all you have to do is show up motivated. www.boxitbootcamp.com For an outdoor workout with a differ-

ence that you can only find in the summer, head to the Gorilla Circus Flying Trapeze school. Improve your strength and fitness by flying through the air chan- nelling your inner acrobat. Tey set up camp from May to September every year in Regent’s Park and Kensington Gardens, as well as in festivals around the country and everyone from age 8 upwards is welcome to learn. Regulars at the two-hour sessions describe it as exhilarating, thrilling and ex- citing while learning techniques and back- wards somersaults. Anyone with daredevil aspirations will enjoy this workout.

www.gorillacircus.com/flyingtrapezeschool/ Billing itself as “not a gym and certainly

not a boot camp”, Project Awesome wants to get people outside, get them mov- ing and get them enjoying their city. Tey do it early in the morning and it’s entirely free. With locations in London at Primrose Hill and Tower Bridge, as well as Bristol and Edinburgh, all you have to do is show up at 6.25am at one of their locations for a fun but serious class to “kick start your day the awesome way.” Your level of fitness or ability doesn’t matter, everyone is welcome and there’s a big social element too: every- one goes for coffee together afterwards. www.projectawesomehq.com

Things that might not be a regular work out but can still break up the monotony: I Bike London is not a regular workout

but it’s a fun, free way to cycle around London in a friendly, social group. Te rides are usually about 20km and fre- quently have a theme. Last March was the Shamrock Ride celebrating St Patrick’s Day. Dress up if you want or just join in for the social aspect and the tour of parts of London you may not be familiar with. You’ll need your own bike for this one.
