CLAIRE IN THE COUNTY TIME IS SO SHORT…

The nights start to draw on 21st June – yes really – but rather than feel depressed, let’s make the most of the lovely long evenings and find great fun things to do!

The temptation is, as a working mum, to work like crazy and just think about the weekends and the school holidays, but we can make wonderful memories in the week too… and without too much effort or money!

I look back and think about the time I had with my girls and I remember so little; it’s for us to create those memories for our children. We had horses and I could tell you many funny stories through the years: waking up to find a foal in the field, not even knowing that the cob mare we had bought eight weeks earlier was even in foal; crazy pony jumping out of the field and galloping into the garden (rather than the road thank god); pony club rallies with soggy sandwiches and the smell of fly repellent…

The struggle is, after a long day at work all you want to do is collapse with a long-awaited G & T, but actually there are lovely things to do with the children, before bed…

n Sowing sunflower seeds and watching them grow and grow and GROW…

n Packing up a picnic and going onto the top of a local hill for a run around, kite flying and nature walk and it’s good for us too! We get so stressed at work, a bit of fresh air does EVERYONE good…

n Walking the dog along the river and jumping in the occasional puddle – for the young and the grown-ups this is always good!

The danger with the age of technology, is that we spend too long sitting infront of a screen – the ipad, the laptop, the TV! We live in the most beautiful part of the UK and we should enjoy it! There are wonderful outdoor theatre events going on at the weekend, stunning walks to be enjoyed and lovely attractions to see.

So before we sink back into the winter, make the most of the light nights, make the most of the sun (when it finally comes out) and enjoy the simple things in life – make some memories, because it’s true, life really is too short not to!
