Accreditations for Wyndham Harbour

Clean Marina and Gold Anchor Accreditations have been presented to Melbourne’s newest marina, Wyndham Harbour on Port Phillip Bay, by Andrew Chapman, CMM, Chairman of the Marina Industries Association. Wyndham Harbour boating facilities include 150 on-water berths (10-20 metres and multihull), 24/7 fuel dock, waste pump-out service, security patrols and CCTV. There is also a sailing school, members’ lounge, dining options, boat sales and a chandlery. Long- term plans are for up to 1,000 boat storage spaces to be provided.

Andrew Chapman said the marina and the associated bayside community development is a credit to its investors, adding that Melbourne is now a more complete destination for boaters, with Wyndham Harbour providing vital marina infrastructure at the Northern end of the Bay.

Darren Finkelstein, Marina Manager at Wyndham Harbour, agreed that the Clean Marina and Gold Anchor programs have added value, both during the marina design and construction phase and moving forward with operations and marketing. “Upholding the values of the accreditations is motivating for staff and promotion of the marina as globally accredited gives us an on-going marketing edge,” he confirmed.

Phase one of covered drystack opens Scarborough Marina near Brisbane, Queensland, has opened phase one of its new covered drystack. A first of kind for the North side of the city, the facility accommodates power boats up to ten metres in length.

The first stage consists of a multi-storey covered rack with room for 97 boats. Stage two will comprise two further racks to give a final capacity of 225 craft. Boaters can call ahead or use a specially- developed app to arrange for vessels to be ready in the water. Scarborough Marina is full-service, with over 230 in-water berths, 24- hour fuel supply, hardstanding with a 35 tonne boat hoist supplied by Marine Travelift and a range of on-site marine businesses.

End of an era at NZ marina Malcolm Fisher has retired from Half Moon Bay Marina in Auckland, New Zealand. He arrived at the marina when it was owned by Broadland one day in 1975 for a few weeks ‘relieving’, but has stayed on for 43 years.

Malcolm’s tenure at the marina has literally been a life-time of service, first as Administration Manager, and when the facility became owned by the Auckland Maritime Foundation, he was appointed Marina Manager in 1980, a position he held for 25 years. Since 2006, Malcolm has managed the marina’s accounting system and its wholly-owned subsidiary, Marina Projects (NZ) Ltd, the master agent for Marine Travelift equipment in Australasia. The Foundation’s trustees, staff and friends wish him a long and happy retirement.
