murfit Kappa is continuing to invest in its Facture Paper Mill to meet the growing

included the implementation of a new pulp washing line, and a complete overhaul of the black liquor recovery boiler. Smurfit Kappa is planning a series of improvements to its PM5 starting in 2019 which, on completion, will increase its yearly capacity of white top kraftliner from 174,000 tonnes

to 220,000 tonnes and, it says, further enhance quality. The Smurfit Kappa Facture

Paper Mill has been producing kraft paper since 1928. Commenting on the upgrade, Laurent Sellier, operations chief of Smurfit Kappa Paper & Board Europe, said: “The Facture site is going through a major

upgrade programme which will significantly increase both the output and quality of the kraftliner we produce. “This mill has an ideal location

for meeting the demands of customers in southern Europe so we are committed to implementing ongoing innovations and improvements.”

Turkey’s Kipas Kagit orders multi-fuel boiler for its new mill

A multi-fuel power boiler and auxiliary equipment is being supplied to the new paper mill being built in Turkey by Kipas Kagit, part of the diverse Kipas Holding group. The order follows the

installation in 2013 of a containerboard machine to Kipas Holding’s board mill in south east Turkey The boiler, for installation

at the greenfield-site paper mill in Söke, Aydin, will

provide steam for a paper machine currently under construction and additionally produce electricity. Its steam production capacity will be sufficient for a second paper machine. Start-up is scheduled for March 2020. The agreement was signed with Kipas Holding’s subsidiary Maren Maras AS which is responsible for building and running the boiler plant.

Commenting on the order, Alaaddin Yalçinözü, general manager of Kipas Kagit, said: “We chose Valmet to supply the boiler based on our earlier good cooperation and experience with Valmet’s state- of-the-art technology. The previous projects that we have carried out together have been successful.” Kai Janhunen, vice president

at the energy business unit of Valmet, added: “Valmet’s

WestRock orders linerboard line for Florence mill

US-based WestRock Company has ordered a linerboard production line with a broad automation package from Valmet for its mill at Florence, South Carolina.

With start-up scheduled

for the first half of 2020, the kraft linerboard machine will replace three older, narrow-width paper machines. Yearly capacity will

be 644,000 metric tons (710,000 short t) of kraft linerboard, and the investment is expected to significantly increase the mill’s efficiency, end-product quality and service levels.

It is said that when coupled with the recently-completed modern woodyard, the Florence mill will become one of the lowest-cost kraft linerboard mills in North America.

flexible boiler technology is ideal for the combustion of all the fuels which the greenfield power plant will use. Our flue gas cleaning will efficiently reduce emissions.” The order includes a CYMIC

circulating fluidised bed boiler for co-firing paper and water treatment sludge, plastic rejects, and coal, and will have a steam production capacity of 260 tons per hour (114 bar, 542 deg C).
