Metsä Board orders second baling line for Kaskinen pulp mill

A

baling line is being delivered to Metsä Board’s pulp mill in Kaskinen, Finland.

It will be the second baling

line to be installed by Valmet at the mill and is scheduled to start up at the end of 2018. The delivery consists of baling line machinery including automation systems. The existing line and the new line will share an existing unitiser, which will provide increased speed. New wire cages will also

be added along the existing line. “We are waiting for Valmet’s

newest technology to give us easier living and to help us to reach our goals,” said Timo Rissanen, mill manager at Metsä Board Kaskinen. Ulf Thorén, head of baling

sales at Valmet, added: “We are looking forward to this project as we have had good cooperation with Metsä in earlier projects. We are very pleased that they chose to work

with us also this time.” The Kaskinen mill, which

produces bleached chemi- thermomechanical pulp for

paperboards and paper with a yearly capacity for 340,000 tons, is located on the west coast of Finland.

Prinzhorn Group and part of the Hamburger Containerboard Division, Hamburger Rieger is aiming to further strengthen its position in Europe’s containerboard industry. The PM2 is estimated to represent an investment of around €80 million with start-up scheduled for mid- 2020.

The 8.6m wire width machine will produce uncoated white and brown testliner and white top testliner grades with a basis weight range of 90-180 g/sqm. Running at up to 1,500 m/min it will have yearly capacity of 500,000 tonnes. The project will include a high-

capacity containerboard machine from headbox to reel followed by

an OptiWin Pro winder, equipped with Dual Unwind giving higher capacity because the parent rolls can be changed in just one minute. With capacity for two million

tonnes from seven plants, Hamburger Containerboard ranks among Europe’s leading manufacturers of premium corrugated base paper.
