Summer 2018 Just when you think you’re on top of the GDPR, another little gremlin crops up to surprise you! My latest example of this was when organising a silent auction – how can we have bidding sheets on display with parents writing their names, email addresses and phone numbers for all to see? It turns out (as with most queries relating to the GDPR) that there’s a simple solution: don’t leave bidding sheets unattended, include a statement explaining that only winners will be contacted, and destroy the bidding sheets as soon as prizes have been fulfi lled. For more answers to fundraising questions relating to the GDPR, turn to p11.

Our feature Preparing to Write an End-of-Grant Report (p34) again stems from personal experience. In a grant application I submitted on behalf my daughter’s Scout group I had ambitiously stated outcomes that turned out to be beyond my control to deliver. Six months later, when asked to write an end-of-grant report, I found myself in a sticky position. It was adequately resolved, but hopefully you can learn from my mistake and strengthen your application in the process!

Wishing you a successful and relaxing summer.
