Show’s tributes to ourwar dead


THE Kent County Showwill host The Royal British Legion’s Every One Remembered sculpture this year to commemorate 100 years since the First World War ended, writesAmyMartin. The work, which features the


Centenary Soldier figure, is in- spired by the artist Mark Humphrey’s own grandfatherwho inherited a brass bombshell deco- rated by his great-grandfather in the trenches when he fought in 1916. The event for farming, country-


side and rural life, which takes place this year between July 6-8 at the Kent Showground in Detling will also display handcrafted knit- ted poppies which have been sent in by the community. JulieNess, EastKentCommunity


Fundraiser for The Royal British Legion, said: “Thememorial at the Kent County Show is set to be a wonderful display to commemo- rate this significant anniversary. We are delighted to be working


with the Kent County Show team to remember those who lost their lives and to support veterans and their families.” Lucy Hegarty, ShowManager of


the Kent County Show, said: “We wanted to be able to commemorate 100 years since the end of the First WorldWar with a fitting tribute to thosewho lost their lives. “The community built poppy dis-


play will form a beautiful centre piece to the Garden Life Marquee and we hope as many people as possiblewill knit, crochet andmake poppies to add to the display.” It has previously been placed in


Trafalgar Square, London, Cardiff City Centre and the Theatre Royal inNewcastle upon Tyne.Visitors to the Show will be able to add a poppy to the sculpture and donate to The Royal British Legion at the memorial next to the Garden Life Marquee.
