Loose women finally make their TV debut

LOOSEWomenmetLooseWomen last month when a band ofMaid- stoneMorris dancers appeared on the ITVdaytime show. Afterunsuccessful attempts by the

Maidstone group to contact the show, they were stunned to receive a call from those at the programme asking themto appear. They were on the show on April

16, the first day at a newstudios for the programme, with hosts Coleen Nolan, Ruth Langsford, Stacey Solomon and JaneMoore. “It was a really lovely day,” said

LooseWomenMorris secretaryLes- ley Smith. “The presenters were all so lovely, signed autographs and posed for pictures. All the people there couldn’t do enough for us. “We’d contacted thembefore, but

never got anywhere. Then we got a call out of the blue saying that the editor had seen our Facebook page andwanted us on the show.” The groupwas set up in 1977, and

takes part in a number of festivals from May to August, as well as weeklymeetingswith other groups.

LooseWomenMorris with presenters Coleen Nolan and Stacey Solomon Although the dancers are all fe-

male, they do havemalemusicians, including Lesley’s husband Roger who, she says, decided that “if you can’t beat them, you join them”. “I joined the group in 2006,” she

added. “I used to do amateur dra- matics but my group folded and I was looking for a new activity and found the group online. “It is so social and I havemade so

many friends. It’s like having an- other family. “We have about 20 dancers aged

from 18 up to 62. There’s a few all- female groups around, but 20 or 30 years ago it was definitely much moremale-orientated.” The club is always on the lookout

for new members. For details, visit www.facebook.com/LooseWomen- Morris.
