Add years to your life!
We all know that exercise is vital for health, but now researchers from the University of Sydney have suggested that strength exercises, such as push-ups and sit-ups are just as important as cardiovascular exercise (jogging, cycling, aerobics etc). ‘When people think of strength training,’ said Associate
Professor Emmanuel Stamatakis, the study’s lead author, ‘they instantly think of doing weights in a gym, but that doesn’t have to be the case. Anyone can do classic exercises like triceps dips, sit-ups, push-ups or lunges in their own home or local park and potentially see the same health benefits.’

Male pill moves a step closer
Scientists at the University of Washington Medical Centre have devel- oped a male contraceptive pill that is effective, safe and doesn’t harm sex drive. The new drug – dimethandrolone undecanoate, or DMAU – was successfully tested on 100 healthy men between 18 and 50 years old. After a month of taking the drug once daily, the 83 men, who completed the study, were subject to blood sampling for hormone and cholesterol testing. At the highest dose of DMAU tested, 400 mg, subjects showed ‘marked suppression’ of levels of their testosterone and two hormones required for sperm production. ‘These promising results are unprecedented in the development of a
