Highlight: Erin Griffin The first $10,000 scholarship in the All-breed Horse show was
awarded to Erin Griffin of Aubrey (above) who accumulated the most points in the Western riding classes offered at this year’s show. Erin is a senior student at Aubrey High School who enjoys not only riding her horse, but also competing in horse judging events and drawing art. She and her horse, Pick Your Pleasure (Mickey), have won multiple high point awards at numerous shows. As a result of showing in the English classes as well, she was also the recipient of the All-Around All-breed Horse show $10,000 scholarship. Erin plans to use her scholarships to help her complete a degree in veteri- nary medicine at Texas A&M University. “It was absolutely incredi- ble to win this scholarship because Mickey was my first 13 & Under show horse. We’ve come a long ways together!” shared Griffin. w
Youth
Highlight: Reagan Davis
The final winner may have earned the greatest feat of the en- tire day. Reagan Davis (left), a 16-year-old from Alto, won not one, but two events in the Youth Rodeo earning a total of $20,000. Davis won the long-go in the pole bending and held
onto that number one spot all the way through the Finals. She also recorded a fast time of 15.977 in the barrel race Finals. Davis is extremely motivated to be successful in the sport of rodeo as she puts all of her time and effort into becoming the best she can be. Her dedication has helped her fine-tune her horses into competitive athletes, especially her barrel horse, Bex, who has only known the barrel pattern for a year. She plans to be an Equine Therapist after graduation. “It means so much to be able to put this toward my col- lege schooling! I cried after my runs. I want to thank God and my family and friends for helping me achieve my goals,” add- ed Reagan Davis. w
