Recycle Rubbish for Earth Day

T

he South Austin

Business As- sociation will host its free annual Earth Day recy- cling event, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., April 21 at Bethany Lutheran Church, in South Austin. Volunteers from the South Austin business community will be on hand to collect office paper for shredding, as well as paint and household batteries for recy- cling. Te city of Austin Water Conserva- tion office will also offer tips on how to save water. “Last year’s event was very success-

ful, and we were busy all morning,” says Angie Jones, event organizer. “It is a great opportunity to shred old office documents or tax records on-site and know that your data is safely disposed of.” Jones adds that it is a good op-

portunity to recycle old paint and household batteries. The city of Austin recycling department recycles the paint and batteries. “We know these items are not safe for our landfills, but we have partners who keep them safe for reuse or disposal.” The South Austin Business As-

sociation is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to promote com- merce in South Austin. The organiza- tion has more than 100 members and meets every Wednesday morning from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at Casa Garcia’s Restau- rant, at the corner of Manchaca and William Cannon.

Location: 3701 W. Slaughter Ln., Austin. For more information, visit SouthAustin- Business.org.
