ately I have been contemplating forgiveness, a big concept touched on in this month’s Inspiration article, on
page 15. Among a wealth of virtues, this one packs a powerful punch for me, or rather, a powerful un-punch. Practicing forgiveness creates a feeling of freedom for all parties involved, deeply felt as internal grace in both the forgiver and forgivee. When we chose to love enough to
forgive all off ences, no matter what, we in essence dwell in a state of forgiving ourselves as well as others; when we choose not to forgive, we are imprisoning all concerned in an ugly and uncomfortable mental space. I’ve noticed that being unforgiving involves pride, however subtle; it’s as if we are maintaining that someone does not deserve the blessing of grace. Eventually we realize that taking off ence in the fi rst place is not really about the other, but about ourself. T e greatest universal example of how to live in a state of forgiveness is Mother
Earth. She continually provides her bounty despite how badly we treat her. Without her kind largess, our survival would not be possible. In reverence for her great giſt s and in honor of Earth Day on April 22, let us demonstrate our respect by off ering our time, talent and treasure to one of the campaigns off ered at
EarthDay.org. To become involved on a local level, come to Earth Day ATX on April 21 at Huston-
Tillotson University and stop by our booth to say hello! Blessings,
letter from publisher T e Virtue of Forgiveness
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. ~ Martin Luther King Jr.
