The Peace House: Education and Advocacy
For more than 30 years, Te Peace House, in Oklahoma City, has served as a public education and advocacy organization on issues such as environmental sustain- ability, universal human rights and social justice. Using mail and social media, the organization supports national policies that protect nature and a healthy environment for all living things. Director Nathaniel Batchel- der studied biology and ecology, and spent five years as the Director of Public Education at the Oklahoma City Zoo, where he learned about the impact of human expansion on all life. Batchelder is passionate about the environment. He says: “It is most crucial that our
generation reduce emissions of gases warming the atmosphere. Calling this a hoax or myth and denying climate science is madness, threatening nature and human civilization. We provide workshops on this issue, urging action and voting for change.” Te Peace House hosts a Peace

Festival each year on the second Saturday of November in the Oklahoma City Civic Center’s Hall of Mirrors. It features several vendors, organizations, live music and a children’s activity room. In addition, the organization sponsors floats in the Martin Luther King Day and Lesbian, Gay, Bisex- ual, Transgender parades. It also advocates for important environmental issues through
demonstrations, rallies, vigils and more, supporting nonviolence and respecting the opin- ions of others.
