ACTIVITIES A SOCK CAN TALK


It may be Spring and that could mean some rainy days stuck inside with the kids. I am guilty of resorting to television on far too many occasions but there are lots of simple ways to entertain the kids which don’t need to break the bank. We asked local mum Tinka Slavicek for an idea and she gave us this lovely Spring lamb puppet.


WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:


1. Put the sock on your hand. The knuckles of your hand should be positioned in the heel of the sock.


2. To make the lamb’s mouth tuck the toe end of the sock into your hand – with your fingers making the top of the jaw and your thumb making the bottom of the jaw.


3. Clip the clothes pegs onto the heel part of the sock to make the ears. 4. Sew or glue on your eyes. Baaaaaa! Your lamb puppet is finished!


Lamb sock puppets love to nibble on almost anything, including wool string grass and children’s fingers!


What you will need: • One woolly sock (black, brown or white if you want to be authentic)


• Two buttons for the eyes • Two wooden clothes pegs for the ears


Tinka is a professional puppet maker and performer. She is co-artistic director of two puppet theatre companies – The Puppetellers and Clogless Lobster. In addition to her work as a theatre maker, Tinka runs many exciting puppet making and performance education projects for children and adults. She lives in Wimbledon with her family, enjoying being part of a vibrant community.


The Puppetellers She is a co-founder of The Puppetellers, a theatre company dedicated to providing high quality performances and workshops using puppets, storytelling, live music and song. Tinka adds that the most important thing is that there is lots and lots of joining in.


She focuses on handcrafted puppets that are often made using simple objects found at home. The aim is to inspire parents to make, play and tell stories with their children.
