WHAT’S ON

FAMILY FUN AT BROOKLANDS

For a real family adventure, head down to Brooklands Museum in Weybridge, Surrey this Spring. Brooklands is the birthplace of British motorsport and aviation and home of Concorde.

Exciting simulator rides You can discover some of the incredible pioneers who raced and flew here and changed the world. Walk through the Motoring Village to see cars that raced at Brooklands and learn about some of the characters who drove them. Check-in for a half-hour Concorde Experience tour* and virtual supersonic ‘flight’. In the 4D Theatre*, try one of three exciting simulator rides, including the Red Arrows in an aerobatic display or racing round the Track in the Napier- Railton – the car that broke 37 World Records! During the holidays, you can even take a car ride.

There is also a new exhibition, the Brooklands Aircraft Factory in the restored WWII hangar.

Clock-in to begin a Brooklands ‘apprenticeship’. In the live, working factory atmosphere, try out various challenges amongst giant propellers, wings and other sections from the earliest wood and fabric aeroplanes to the jet-age.

A learning experience The centrepiece is the WWII Wellington Bomber that crashed into Loch Ness and came back to Brooklands for restoration. In the Flight Shed next door see some of the Museum’s live aircraft, sit in a cockpit of a Harrier and learn about some of the pilots that flew here.

In the Aircraft Park, go on board a range of aircraft that were all built at Brooklands and chat to the knowledgeable volunteers who look after them. One of the

star attractions is the VC10 that belonged to the Sultan of Oman with a luxurious interior that includes a ‘gold’ bathroom and beds! London Bus Museum is also on site and contains dozens of ex- London Transport buses from the earliest horse bus to the familiar red and green double-deckers.

Ideal for teens or youngsters In the Clubhouse the Sunbeam Café serves hot and cold snacks and meals with healthy options for kids. Brooklands is ideal for teens or youngsters with special trails, a soft play area and activities to keep them busy whilst learning about the incredible engineering and science that Brooklands was famous for over an eighty year period.

Brooklands Museum has free parking, is the biggest Museum in Surrey and is open every day at 10am. See www.brooklandsmuseum. com for further information and details about weekend events and family activities.

*Concorde Experience and 4D Theatre simulator rides are supplementary and can be booked on arrival to avoid disappointment
