CELEBRATING MOTHERHOOD
By LiggyWebb
AMother is a daughter’s first best friend
Celebrations of mothers and motherhood can be traced back to the ancient Greeks and Romans, who held festivals in honour of the mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele. The modern precedent for Mother'sDay is the early Christian festival knownas Mothering Sunday. On this daymany enthusiastically bestowgifts and cards on their Mothers to showlove and appreciation. Personally, I think every day should
be Mother’sDay! I knowIamvery fortunate to have an amazing Mother. She is a role model formein every way because she is strong, positive, kind, loving, resourceful and resilient. She is 85 and has aged gracefully and remarkably. Having had her share of life’s challenges throughout the years she has always been a rock for everyone else around her. These are someof the key lessons
I have learnt frommy Mother and I amso grateful that she has shared
Liggy and her mum
these withmeas they have certainly helpedmeto be strong and resilient through sometough times…
• Let it go andmove on -We will experience somany things in our lives and it is important to let go of the negatives andmove on. Festering over things that you can do nothing about will just drag you down. • The best antidote for anxiety is action - rather than procrastinating and ruminating, which can triggerworry and anxiety. It is far better to focus and do
something practical and positive. • Look afterwhat you’ve got -Abig part of ageingwell is keeping active whilst being mindful of your limitations, adopting a lifestyle and eating lots of vegetables! •Be kind - generosity, care and compassion for others are what helps tomake theworld a better place. •Count your blessings oneby one - Gratitudemakes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.
ThanksMumfor the great advice!
“Amother is the truest friendwehave, when trials heavy and sudden fall upon us: when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.” Washington Irving
